Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Tammy Noel
Executive Director
Tammy started her career at Sylvan in 1991 as a part-time instructor in Rockford, IL. After she married, she moved back to St. Louis and was the Director of Education and Center Director of the Creve Coeur center for 7 years. Currently, Tammy is owner of three locations; Chesterfield, Ballwin, and St. Peters. Tammy has three children-Kaylee, Olivia and Seth. She loves helping parents find resources at Sylvan to help their children reach their fullest potential.
Jackie Joest
Center Educational Director
Jackie has a psychology degree from University of Missouri - Columbia. She received her teaching certification from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Jackie has been with Sylvan since 2006. She enjoys working closely with families to see each child meet their fullest potential. Jackie loves to read and spend time with her son Jackson.
Abrea Da Lay
Director of Education
Abrea graduated from Maryville University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. She worked in the Rockwood School District teaching Algebra before coming to Sylvan. Abrea enjoys going to the gym, crosstiching, and spending time with friends in her spare time. She loves working at Sylvan because she enjoys being able to create a program to fit each student's needs.
Liz Heitman
Teacher
Liz received her B.S. in education from Washington University, her M.S. from Maryville University, and has 50+ graduate hours. She has taught both elementary and middle school for the public school system and currently teaches at Hixson Middle School in Webster Groves. Also, she currently supervises student teachers at the University of Missouri - St. Louis and teaches at Sylvan. Liz enjoys bridge, theater, symphony, and dinner out. She loves working with the students at Sylvan and watching them grow academically.
Ashley Velleca
Teacher
Ashley graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education but is certified through middle school. She loves teaching and is excited to be working at Sylvan. She loves working for Sylvan because of the students' diverse educational needs. When she's not teaching, she enjoys shopping, reading, and training her puppy.
Neal McCluggage
Teacher
Neal has a B.A. in History and is certified in Secondary Social Studies. Neal has worked for Sylvan for over ten years and loves the variety of ages and skill sets with which the students present him. In his spare time he loves reading, playing guitar, and cooking.
Elizabeth Croskey
Teacher
Elizabeth received her BS in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri St. Louis specializing in middle school math and science. In addition to Sylvan, she also works for Special School District at Parkway Central Middle School. During her free time she enjoys scrap-booking, camping, and doing arts and crafts. Elizabeth loves working for Sylvan because she can help struggling students to understand and feel confident.
Rachel Haberstroh
Teacher
Rachel has her BA in Psychology and Masters in Elementary Education. She is certified in special education, elementary and early childhood. Rachel has been working at Sylvan since 2008 as both a teacher and assessment administrator. She also works as a paraprofessional at Boone Elementary in the Troy School District. Outside of work Rachel enjoys reading and dancing. She loves working for Sylvan because of the opportunity to work with students of all ages.
Rebekah Volz
Teacher
Rebekah has a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Social Sciences. She is certified in social sciences grade 5-12 as well as mid to moderate disabilities k-12. In addition to Sylvan, she also works as a Special Education teacher in the Francis Howell School District. Rebekah enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outside, and traveling. She loves working for Sylvan because she enjoys seeing the kids grow and learn. She loves helping students be excited about learning.
Ellie Griesse
Teacher
Ellie is a certified middle school math and english teacher. Ellie likes working at Sylvan because she enjoys seeing the students succeed. In her free time sh enjoys spending time with her husband and friends and cooking.
Nickie Mueller
Teacher
Nickie graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Elementary Education with a Middle Level focus and a concentration in mathematics. Nickie enjoys volunteering in the community as well as reading in her free time.
