Beginning ReaderMichele we are glad that we chose to place our 5 year old son in the Sylvan Learning Center. As a result of our decision, we have noticed a significant improvement in our son's reading ability. He was reading on the 1st grade level, and after several months at your center, we are pleased to report that he is now reading on the 3rd. grade level. - Jerome Ramey |
Second ChanceMy name is Jarrett Swain and I attend St. Louis University High School. During my first year, I struggled with Algebra. At the end of the year, I did not receive the math credit that I needed in order to pass freshman math. I was given two choices by my school: Find another school to attend, or enroll in a Freshman Agebra class over the summer and receive a credit. I chose to take an Algebra class and receive credit in order to continue at St. Louis University High School. I walked through the doors of Sylvan and they accepted me with open arms. I worked hard with the teachers and with my determination along with their encouragement; I received the math credit and a more positve attitude towards Algebra. The teachers at Sylvan made sure that I understood the math. All it takes is dedication and time. Any one with a positive attitude can do what I did. - Jarrett Swain |
Grandparent of JamesAs a grandparent and parent, it was very difficult for me to observe my then seven year old grandson struggle with the process of learning to read. In an effort to help him achieve this skill, he was enrolled in two different reading programs without any noticeable improvement. We then enrolled him in the Sylvan Learning Center of North County. The staff at Sylvan were very professional. They immediately, through testing, identified his needs and developed an individualized plan for him to follow. Since attending Sylvan, he has deomonstrated significant improvement in his reading skills. We have also noticed he now has more self-confidence and enjoys reading. We are very grateful to the staff at Sylvan for the services and compassion they have given. - R. Raftery |
Thank God for SylvanBefore Justin began sessions at Sylvan Learning Center in 2006, he was below reading and math skills in school. After I enrolled him in Sylvan, he is reading on level and continues to improve in his math skills. |
Best decision and investment for meVeronica and I just want to thank you and all the staff at Sylvan for all your help over the years. Sylvan has helped Veronica improve her skills from elementary to high school. She graduates next month in the top 50 ranking of her class and she is off to college in the fall because of great ACT scores and a high GPA. We couldn't have done it without the help of the people at Sylvan. This was the best decision and investment for me! Thanks again. |

Today I thought I'd take the time to personally write a letter to express my appreciation and admiration for the staff and director, Michele Anderson, at the Sylvan Learning Center in Florissant. My boys had been struggling with reading since 1st grade. I myself struggled with the school and the adminstration of the school district to devise a plan to help both of my sons read better. We went through tutoring, one-on-one studies and resources to assist them in their struggles. I brought them to Sylvan and found that their skill level was actually 2 levels below their actual grade placement in school. My heart sank. How was I going to be able to afford this help for both of my sons when I,too, was attending a Masters Program. Michele grabbed me by the hand and told me that she would do her best to make it affordable for my family. She gave me a list of financial options and worked closely with me during the whole time my sons attended the center. My sons are now both reading above grade level and enjoying school. Kudos to the Sylvan staff for showing my whole family compassion, comfort along with helping my boys reach their educational goals. With heart felt sadness and hugs of gratitude I want to inform you that Rashaad's last day at Sylvan will be January 23, 2006. As a parent with utmost concern for Rashaad's ability to excel in his education, I cannot say enough for you and your staff. I want to thank you, Michele and Judie for your excellent care and great work with Rashaad and to the staff of Sylvan for their excellent care and work. Because of you, Rashaad is feeling more confident in his schoolwork and I feel he can proceed on in his education. - Patricia A. Hinton/Parent |

Learning StructureI really love the way the staff communicates with the parent. They do an excellent job. My son really enjoyed coming. Their learning structure is unique and lights a fire under a student to learn. - P. Irivin - Proud Parent |
