Tracy M.

Center Director

Tracy received a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Business Communications degree from Western Michigan University and a Missouri Teaching Certificate for grades 1-6 from Central Methodist College. She has worked at the Washington Sylvan Center for five years. She came to Sylvan looking for a part-time job she could do in the evening and stayed through several franchisee changes. She is now the full-time Center Director. For her, working at Sylvan is all about seeing the amazing improvements students make due to the specific focus put on their individual learning needs. Tracy is married and has two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and being a swim coach at the local YMCA.

Dana S.

Director of Education

Dana has Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree with Teacher Certifications in the areas of English, Library Science and Adult Basic Education from Southeast Missouri State University. Dana was a stay-at-home wife and mother who homeschooled her three children for 20 years. She joined the Washington Sylvan team in 2003 as a part-time teacher. Dana is now the full-time DE, and, along with her husband, Charles, the new owner of the Washington Sylvan franchise. For Dana, working at Sylvan is all about the thrill of watching students gain confidence as they acquire learning skills and knowledge. She likes being part of a program that focuses on teamwork to help each student be successful in school.

Tammy has a Bachelor of Science degree from Truman State University. She has worked at Sylvan for three years as the administrative assistant and teachers' aide. She enjoys being part of Sylvan's team approach to helping families meet the educational goals they and their children have set.

Monica has an Associate of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She will receive her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree in August of 2010. Monica has worked at the Washington Sylvan Center for two years as a math instructor and teachers’ aide. She also works as a substitute teacher in the Washington School District. She is planning to a wedding for September 2010. For Monica, working at Sylvan is all about student success. “I like seeing the changes that can be made with the students. Not only do they begin to succeed in school, but they also become more confident in the school work and other aspects of their lives." Monica enjoys fishing and camping with her family, photography and reading mystery books.

Debbie has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree with a major in Speech and Language Pathology and is certified in all areas of Special Education as well as Adult Education and Literacy. She has worked as a teacher at Sylvan for 1½ years. She appreciates the Sylvan approach to learning and enjoys watching the “light go on” when students finally get something they have struggled hard to learn. Debbie says, “I like working at Sylvan because the assessment process is so thorough, the teaching approach utilizes all the learning channels to maximize students’ success, and the materials are the best!” Debbie is married and has three adult children. She works part-time at her husband’s orthodontic office and also spends time volunteering for United Way, Meals on Wheels and her church.

Katie has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and is a certified library media specialist. She teaches Academic Reading, Math Essentials and Beginning Reading at the Washington Sylvan Center where she has worked part-time for a year and a half. She enjoys working with the children and sharing their successes with them. She is the proud mom of Olivia who was born in February 2009.

Sandy has a Bachelors of Science in Education degree. She worked at Sylvan for two and a half years a few years ago and recently returned to manage the Washington Center's Ace-It program. She loves experiencing the ah-ha moments at Sylvan when a student or staff member achieves a goal, learns something new, or gains a little more self-confidence. Sandy is married and has four adult children and three grandchildren.
