As Center Director of the Sylvan in Fremont, Derek oversees all facets of the center’s operations. First and foremost, he is responsible for holding the center to the highest standards in the delivery of all educational programs. He works with Sylvan instructors to help students achieve their educational goals, maintains detailed records of students’ progress, and works in close collaboration with parents, teachers and other school personnel to ensure each student’s success.
I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Secretarial Science and Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an Endorsement in Special Education from Midland Lutheran College. Later I earned a Master’s degree from Wayne State College and have taken 45 hours beyond the Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I have taught in the public school system for 25 years. I started teaching part-time at the Sylvan in 2004 and was thoroughly impressed with their program.
I went to Wayne State College where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in December of 2004. I was hired by Papillion La Vista and am currently teaching second grade. I enjoy teaching at Sylvan and watching children learn and gain self-confidence. Each child learns in a specific way and that’s what so cool about Sylvan; we find that way and teach to the child’s specific learning style! I enjoy reading, traveling and being with my friends and family.
I was born on January 20, 1979 in Atkinson Nebraska. Raised in Chambers, Nebraska, I learned to love hunting, fishing, and Playstation.
I now live in Fremont with my family of six. My wife and I have both worked for Fremont Public Schools. I teach Math at the Fremont Middle School and really enjoy it.
I graduated from Midland Lutheran College in May of 2006 with my degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I worked at the Jefferson House from 2006-2007 as their teacher. Currently, I am at Mead Elementary as the K-4 Title I Reading and Math Teacher. I started working at Sylvan in January of 2006, and love working with all of the kids. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, scrapbooking, and going to concerts.

I graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education. In addition to teaching English, I enjoy writing, singing, dancing, participating in drama productions, and spending time with my family and friends. After teaching high school English in Illinois for three years, I moved to Nebraska to seek new teaching opportunities. I joined the Sylvan staff in August 2007 and have been impressed with the program.
