Now She Is Pulling A's

"After noticing our daughter was having problems in school during fifth grade, we decided to talk to Sylvan Learning Center. She has been in the resource room since third grade and we were not seeing much improvement. We decided to have her tested at Sylvan and found her to be two grade levels behind in reading. She also needed some help with her math.

After just a few hours of instruction at Sylvan, we noticed more confidence and better grades. The staff at Sylvan was knowledgeable and friendly. She blossomed in their rewarding environment. Sylvan was able to provide the skills that were missing and with only 36 hours of instruction, she had improved over one grade level. We continued and she finished the Sylvan program. Now she is up to her grade level in school, pulling A's and is a teacher's aide, helping out other students in her class.

Due to a medical condition, she had sporadic attendance at high school and when we enrolled her at Sylvan, we were looking to them for credit recovery, class credit, and homework support. Sylvan gave her the foundation that she needed and also a thorough understanding of each subject. It gave her confidence in herself as a smart and capable young woman, a feeling that had eroded when she began to fall behind in her school work. "After struggling for nearly two years in math and reading and being told by teachers that "he could do better if he just applied himself", we turned to Sylvan. Testing showed he was working way below his grade level, so without hesitation we enrolled him in the program.

The entire Sylvan team was wonderful from the start and worked with us around his schedule and sports. Our son thrived in this environment where he was shown genuine concern and care from the staff.

We saw his academic skills improve rapidly with the personalized lesson plans at Sylvan, but almost as important was the way he was beginning to feel about himself. What a joy to see his self-esteem, confidence, and pride in his success escalate! Our son now takes the responsibility of asking for help if he doesn't understand lessons in class, and we have no more late nights of doing homework. He did not have the confidence to do this before, so we believe this is one of the greatest improvements. He is keeping up with his peers and likes school this year. The positive attitude that he found at Sylvan toward school has also carried over to other aspects of his life.
