dyslexicMy husband and I decided to home school our four children when our first born asked us to teach her. My husband is a physician and I am a repiratory therapist. We have educated our four children with the Abeka program. All three of our daughters scored well above the standards. Our youngest is nine years old. He was having a really hard time with reading, writing, and spelling. We could tell from the beginning that he just wasn't getting it. We had him tested at Nicholls State University. He was diagnosed as profoundly dyslexic. We decided to try Sylvan because of all the really good things we'd heard about the school. He was evaluated when we enrolled him. He tested at the beginning level of the 1st grade. He was in the third grade at the time. They recently re-evaluated him. He tested at the middle of the 3rd grade. Sylvan has so helped him. High school mathI started taking my child to Sylvan in 8th grade. She has struggled with math since the fourth grade. She was tested in math at that time and was found to be at the fifth grade level. After several months, with periodic testing and frequent updates for the staff at Sylvan, she tested out at high school level in many sklls, and even college level in others. When we started, she had trouble comprehending word problems and many basic math facts. Today, she came home from school and told me she is making a B in Geometry. At one point last year, she was able to explain a math problem to the class that her teacher at school had trouble getting them to understand. - Carolyn |
Thank youToday our once little girl is now an honor roll, high school student that abounds with self confidence not only from a scholastic standpoint but as a person as well.
