Sylvan's tutors teach skills that last a lifetime. We help students learn how to become self-motivated and achieve independence; above all else, we enable them to approach school — and life — with confidence.
We also maintain Sylvan tutoring special offers and seasonal promotions that make getting your child on the road to success easier.

1. Let your child see you reading for pleasure.
2. Read to your child in your primary language. Listening skills come before reading skills.
3. Listen to your child read to you and or to relatives.
4. Reward your child for reading using praise, new books, a success chart, etc.
5. Develop your child's experiential background. This will allow her to relate reading activities to life!
6. Build vocabulary activities through games and practice! Try word bingo or a word game together!
7. Use BookAdventure.com to help build reading comprehension skills.
8. Take your child to the library regularly.
9. Let your child get excited about books of his/her choice!
10. Turn off the TV and READ. Read the books that correspond to upcoming Movie Blockbuster hits!
Speed Reading is VITAL to doing well on the critical reading portion of the SAT college-entrance exams! Qualified students 6th grade and above (even adults) may take this class. CALL THE CENTER FOR the Center's WINTER 2009 dates. Also, call for approval regarding on-site (*your choice, upon Sylvan approval) for Sylvan Advanced Reading (aka SPEED READING) seminars.
Parents: Check out these books!
Dr. Ruth Peters:
OVERCOMING UNDERACHIEVING
and
DON'T BE AFRAID TO DISCIPLINE
Dr. James Dobson
BRINGING UP BOYS
Don't judge these books by their titles! Dr. Peters' books are designed to help parents motivate their kids with ways that the students will respond to (like freedom incentives). Dr. Peters teaches parents how to communicate effectively with children of any age. Dr. Dobson's book gives solid advice of how to bring up boys in a difficult society and teach them to become strong, successful men! These are certainly "Must Read" books on my list!
