FREQUENTLY ASKED SAT QUESTIONS

1. What is the Sylvan SAT Prep program?
The basic program is 37 hours, with six 2 hour math lessons, five 2 hour critical reading lessons, four 2 hour writing lessons, and two 3.5 hour practice tests. There is also a free initial diagnostic test that allows us to pinpoint a student’s individual strengths and weaknesses and personalize their program. The instruction is done in small groups of 6-10 students, as opposed to the typical classes offered by other programs that are two to three times as large. The lessons are spread out over an ideal 8 to 10 week period before the test date in order to peak a student for the test.

2. What is the cost?
$900. That includes the entire 37 hour program, all course materials and diagnostic tests.

3. Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes, we have a full money back satisfaction guarantee. If, after enrolling and attending the first session, you are not convinced that Sylvan Prep is the best program for you, then simply notify us within 48 hours of your first session and return your materials for a full refund.

In our experience, a student’s score increase depends on the amount of effort the student puts into the course. Because it’s impossible to guarantee the amount of effort a student will put into our course, it is therefore impossible to guarantee a score increase. How can we guarantee “X” score increase for a student who does not do any homework or learn any of the word groups?

Three out of every four Sylvan Prep students raise their scores 160 points or more. That means we work with students who improve their scores anywhere from 200 – 300 points, which is not uncommon because of Sylvan Prep’s highly personalized approach and state of the art course materials. But, we also have students who do no homework, no diagnostics, and no vocabulary work, and consequently see no substantial increase at all.

4. What if my child’s score doesn’t improve with Sylvan Prep?
If a student goes through our program, follows through on homework assignments, diagnostic tests, and vocabulary study, and takes the lessons seriously, he or she should see a substantial score increase.
If, for whatever reason, a student’s score does not improve, give us a call and we’ll evaluate each situation on a case-by-case basis, talking to the instructors, and evaluating the student’s progress over the course of the lessons.

5. My son scored very low on the SAT. Can your program help?
Yes, but to be honest, he may need more than what our typical SAT program offers in order to see the greatest potential score increase. Although our program addresses some of the academics on the test, it may not cover the academics to the degree your son needs. The SAT program can still raise your son’s scores, but certain strategies will have limited effectiveness when a student is unsure or rusty with some of the academics.
