Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Anthonette Ruffino
Executive Director
Anthonette holds a B.S. degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University and a M.S. degree in Education from Baylor University. Although she enjoyed working in the school system for over ten years, she felt the need to help students in another way. That way turned out to be Sylvan. She has been in operation for 20 plus years and is very involved at the center in College Station as well as the center in Spring.
LaWren Gunter
Center Director
A graduate of Sam Houston State University -- B.S. in History, Economics & English. Has 30+ years teaching experience. Began working with Sylvan in 2003. She and her husband have 1 grown child and 4 grandchildren.
Mariana Schoeneman
Director
Mariana graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in Education and a minor in Mathematics. She comes to us with extensive knowledge of the Sylvan philosophy, having worked for a total of 5 years at The Woodlands and College Station locations. When she's not at Sylvan, she enjoys spending time with her 2 year old son and scrapbooking.

Instructors
We have instructors who come from varied backgrounds. Several teachers have 30 plus years in the schools. The majority of our teachers have been with us for 6 plus years. Our teachers currently serve as counselors classroom teachers, & gifted & talented teachers in area schools. We have highly skilled math teachers. Their current & past classroom experience provides quality teaching for our students. We work as a team, with passion for helping students succeed.
