Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Margaret Ann Parsons
Reading, Math, Writing Teacher
Certified Teacher- B.S. in Education, M.S. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, Gifted and Talented Certified, Dyslexia Trained
Margaret is a retired classroom teacher, P.E. coach, and librarian She has over 31 years of teaching experience in both public and private settings.
Cecile Schultz
Reading and Math Teacher
Certified Teacher- B.A. in Elementary Education, M.A. in Elementary Education, Certifed in Special Education from the University of Texas, San Antonio.
Cecile has over 25 years teaching experience in both public and private schools here in San Antonio.
Khalid Zakaria
Reading, Math Specialist, Writing, Study Skills, SAT/ACT Prep, TAKS PrepTeacher
Certified Teacher- B.A. in Education from Morehouse College.
Khalid is a hometown graduate of East Central High School and of the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia! Khalid currently teaches 2nd grade at his full-time position with San Antonio Independent School District. He has over 6 years experience.
Donny Tejeda
Math Specialist
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M.
Donny tutors all levels of mathematics, including TAKS Prep, physics and SAT Prep Math. He has over 4 years teaching experience.
Maria Espinoza
Reading, Math, Writing, Study Skills Teacher
Certified Teacher- B.A. in Education from Trinity University.
Maria taught for over thirty years in San Antonio ISD. Her career highlights include speaking at the Congressional Education Forum in Washington DC and being featured in American Educator magazine. Maria's former students have selected her as the "Teacher Who Greatly Influenced Me" in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2008. Currently, Maria serves as a GEAR UP Tutor in SAISD when she is not at Sylvan.
Eric Storey
Reading and Math Teacher
Certified Teacher- B.A. in History from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Eric has over 5 years teaching experience in elementary education.
Mindy Hearn
Center Director
Mindy has a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, East Bay. She has 10 years classroom experience teaching 1st and 3rd grade. She came to Sylvan as a Director of Education in 2002, and was promoted to Center Director in 2003. She has sucessfully managed three Sylvan Learning Centers in the San Antonio area.
Her responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the center and conferring with parents.
Lisa Hopkins
Director of Education
Certified Teacher- B.S. in Interdisciplary Studies
Lisa is a former Special Education Teacher for Northside Independent School District in San Antonio. She began at Sylvan as an instructor and later was promoted to Education Coordinator at our Bandera Road location. Lisa was then promoted to Director of Education of our Goliad Road location in January of 2010.
Her responsibilities include overseeing the academic programs of each student, conferring with parents, and conducting school visits.
