Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Mindy graduated in 1992 from Cal State University and began teaching elementary school. After 10 years, she relocated to San Antonio. Here she began work with Sylvan Learning Center as a Director of Education. In 2003, she was promoted to Center Director of our Forum location, and in 2004 she transferred back to the Bandera Road location. Her responsibilities include overseeing the operation of the learning center and conferring with parents.
Certified Teacher- Kristen has eight years experience teaching Special Education in Northside ISD. She joined Sylvan in October 1999 as a tutor, became Associate Director in April 2000, and Director of Education in June 2004. Kristen is responsible for updating student lessons and records, teaching, motivating students, conferencing with parents and teachers, and implementing the Academic Reading, Basic Math, Study Skills, and Writing programs.
Certified Teacher/ Reading Specialist- Since 1998, Rebecca has been a lead teacher, trainer and tester for Sylvan Learning Center. With over 26 years experience as a classroom teacher and reading specialist, Rebecca recently retired from the Northside School District. She graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1975 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and later completed her M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. In 2002, Rebecca received her Master Reading Teacher Certification.
Math Teacher- After teaching math in the school districts for 5 years, Peggy came to Sylvan as a teacher in 1998. In 1999, Peggy became an Education Consultant for Sylvan, and then in 2002, she took the position of Program Coordinator. In December 2003, Peggy was promoted to Director of Education at our Forum location. Recently, Peggy transferred to our Bandera Road location. Her responsibilities include testing and maintaining student records, conferring with parents and classroom teachers.
Certified Teacher- B.A. Elementary Education, M.A. in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a Concentration in Reading
Helen, or "Des" as she is known at Sylvan, graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1966. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from St. Mary's University, and her M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Des has taught elementary school in the Edgewood and Northside Districts for 37 years. Upon retiring in 2007, Des came to work at Sylvan.

Donna received her B.A. in Education from Trinity University and her M.A. in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was an elementary school teacher in the Edgewood District for 33 years.
Certified Teacher- B.A. Education, Bilingual Certification
Linda received her B.A. in Bilingual Elementary Education from Texas A&M. She has taught middle school in Northside ISD for 13 years. Linda currently is an Inclusion teacher and assists the math department with special needs students at Jefferson Middle School. She is one our most requested teachers!
Certified Teacher- B.A. History / Political Science
Thomas graduated from Holmes High School in the top 10% of his class. In 2005 he graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University with a B.A. in History, and he has begun his Masters work in Criminal Justice.
Certified Teacher- B.A. Education, M.S. School Administration
Sandra received her B.A. in Psychology/Education from Our Lady of the Lake University, and her M.A. in School Administration from Txas A&M. She taught 3rd grade for 22 years in Northside ISD and Kindergarten for 8 years for Lackland ISD. Upon retiring in 2005, Sandra came to Sylvan.
Certified Teacher- B.S. Psychology, Elementary Certification
Melissa received her B.S. in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University and her Elementary Certification from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was a Special Education Teacher for 29 years in the Edgewood District. Upon retiring, she joined the Sylvan Team in 2007.
Certified Teacher-B.S Secondary Education/English, Gifted and Talented Certified, Advanced Placement Certified
Jennifer received her B.S. degree in Secondary Education/English from New Mexico State University at Las Cruces. She has English/Language Arts at the middle school and high school level for 8 years. Jennifer has been with Sylvan since 1997.
Certified Teacher- B.S., M.S. Mathematics
Bob earned his B.S. in Math from the University of New Hampshire and his M.S. in Math from the prestigious Rutgers University. He has taught math at the high school and college level for 43 years. Bob's math expertise is highly regarded as well as his great sense of humor! This makes him one of our most sought after teachers!
Certified Teacher- B.S. Elementary Education and Marine Affairs
Jamie has a B.S. from the University of Florida at Miami, and is currently working on her Masters in Special Educaton. She currently teaches second grade at a local Northside elementary school.

Kathy received her B.S. in Special Education from New Mexico State University at Las Cruces. She has taught middle school Resource and Inclusion in Northside ISD as well as in preschool programs with children with disabilities. Currently Kathy teaches Pre-Ap and AP reading at Jordan Middle School. She has been with Sylvan since 2008.

Cynthia holds two lifetime teaching certificates in the areas of elementary grades 1-6 and Special Education Pre-K through 12th grade. She has 35 years teaching experience and retired from Northide ISD in 2006. She earned her B.A. from Colorado State University at Pueblo, and her M.A. from University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. Cynthia's teaching experience ranges from 1st to 8th grades, instructing both regular and special education classrooms.
B.E. Reactor Engineering, B.S. Mathematics, M.S. Mathematics
Niki is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Applied Statistics at UTSA, where she also teaches Algebra and
Statistics. She has also taught 3rd, 4th and 8th grade Japanese and Mathematics in Georgia.
