Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals

Sue Ann Pitts
Executive Director
Sue Ann has been an educator for over 30 years. She is a graduate of Tarleton State University with a specialization in Early Childhood and minor in Spanish. She trained from the Neuhaus Center in Houston, Texas in alphabetic phonics teaching dyslexic students. She wrote Kindergarten curriculum for local school district and presented educational workshops. Sue Ann has been franchisee for Sylvan for over 10 years. As Executive Director, she oversees the operations of the Sylvan Learning Centers in Corpus Christi, Laredo, and Victoria as well as partnering with schools through grant programs. Sue Ann has a desire to help every child succeed and enjoys seeing self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence improve amongst Sylvan students.
Rhonda Beadle
Director of Education
Rhonda has a BS in Elementary Education and Physical Education. She has a variety of teaching experience with students ranging from those with special needs to those who are gifted and talented. In addition to 12 years of teaching, Rhonda has written curriculum, presented educational workshops, and owned a business. As a Director at Sylvan, Rhonda has the opportunity to implement individualized curriculum for students and work with families to find success for their children. She spends time with her family enjoying a variety of outdoor activities.
Sarah Laza
Director of Education
Sarah earned her BA in Communications and her MS in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. She is a certified K-6 generalist, and 8-12 communications teacher. Sarah has experience working with large and small group classes, creating lesson plans and state assessments. Her position as Director allows her to share her passion for learning and facilitate academic success. Sarah loves spending time with her family and enjoying the outdoors.
Casey Walters
Program Manager
Casey earned her Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. She has experience teaching preschool and elementary students. Casey has experience at Sylvan as a tutor, updating education plans, and administering assessments. She is a dedicated reading program manager and enjoys helping students succeed. Casey enjoys spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters.
Shyala Bensen
Program Manager
Shyala earned her BA in Chemistry from Texas A&M University, College Station. She was Sylvan Certified in 2008. She has tutored at Sylvan in College Station as lead math teacher. In Corpus, she now enjoys managing the math program, tutoring upper level math and science students, and coordinating study skills and homework support. Away from Sylvan, Shyala enjoys reading as well as spending time with her husband and two dogs.
Patty Zapalac
Regional Director
Patty has been an educator for 30 years, as a teacher, librarian, and assistant principal; responsible for student growth, wrote curriculum for local school district, and presented educational workshops, purchased and managed circulation of library books, supervision and training of staff, oversaw everyday operations of the school, and developed community outreach. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Elementary Education, graduate hours at Abeline Christian College, and graduate of the University of Sewanee in Theology. Patty is dedicated to children and families as the grow and progress at Sylvan.
