Mike Sullivan
Executive Director
ABOUT MIKE:
Mike is husband to Cindy and father of Matthew, 25, and Michael, 22. Mike's hobbies and interests include reading, washing cars, mentoring young people, snow skiing, and traveling. He also attends church at Beltway Park and leads a Life Group Bible Study for young adults.
EDUCATION:
B.A. in Political Science from Hardin Simmons University
EXPERIENCE:
Former board member of AISD Board of Trustees, Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, & the Better Business Bureau. He is the President of the Board of the Serenity House and is also a board member of Pregnancy Resources of Abilene. He has owned this Sylvan Learning Center since May 2000. He also has owned the Sylvan in Lubbock since Nov. 2002 and the co-owner of Wichitia Falls Sylvan since July 2008.
Eileen Bonds

ABOUT EILEEN:
Eileen enjoys yoga, reading, and walking her dog, Gideon.
EDUCATION:
B.S. in Elementary Education and a Reading Specialization from Texas Tech University
EXPERIENCE:
Eileen has taught kindergarten for 32 years. She also does migrant tutoring. She has been with Sylvan since September 2008.
Crystal Gutierrez
Instructor
ABOUT CRYSTAL:
Crystal enjoys reading, sleeping, scrapbooking, shopping, and eating.
EDUCATION:
B.S. in Multidisciplinary Studies from Texas Tech University. She is currently working on her Masters in Language and Literacy.
EXPERIENCE:
Crystal currently works at Ramriez Charter School as a teacher assistant in the 5th grade. She has been with Sylvan since September 2011.
Kristen Hurd

ABOUT KRISTEN:
Kristen has 3 daughters and 1 granddaughter.
EDUCATION:
-- B.S. in Veterinary Sciences from University of Arizona
-- Masters in Education from Wayland Baptist University
EXPERIENCE:
Kristen teaches grades 6 through 12 at Premier High School. Prior to that, she homeschooled her 3 girls for 8 years, was an Algebra tutor, and was an Athletic Director and Coach in Arizona for 2 years.
Amanda Marinez
Instructor
ABOUT AMANDA:
Amanda is the daughter of Mike and Patsy. She is married to Juan. She loves watching sports, especially Texas Tech and the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoys shoppping and reading cookbooks.
EDUCATION:
Undergraduate and Masters Degrees from Texas Tech University
EXPERIENCE:
Amanda is currently a teacher at Harmony Science Academy. She has been with Sylvan since March 2010.
April Mullins
Instructor
ABOUT APRIL:
April has 2 dogs, Phoebe and Coop, and 2 cats, Phoenix and Savannah. She enjoys ceramics, watching movies, and playing with my dogs. She is also active in her church choir.
EDUCATION:
Bacherlor's Degree in Music Therapy and Masters in Special Education from West Texas A&M University.
EXPERIENCE:
April has been teaching at Premier High School for the last 3 years. She has been with Sylvan since August 2008.
Holli Myrick

ABOUT HOLLI:
Holli is married to Jay. She enjoys reading books, cross stiching, and spending time with family and friends.
EDUCATION:
-- B.S. in Elementary Education from Lubbock Christian University
-- ESL certified
EXPERIENCE:
Holli has been teaching kindergarten in LISD for the last 5 years. Prior to that, she taught kindergarten in Kress, TX. She has been with Sylvan since April 2010.
Detra Njenga

ABOUT DETRA:
Detra has 2 sons, Raphael and Benjamin. She enjoys spending time with her children, walking their dog, Blossom, and catching up on the latest movies. She is Coffee Club (community service group) sponsor for Harmony Science Academy. She is also the youth group director for her church
EDUCATION:
Graduate of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
EXPERIENCE:
Detra currently teaches English at Harmony Science Academy. Prior to that, she worked as a speech therapist assitant for 6 years. She has been with Sylvan since August 2010.
Amanda Phillips

ABOUT AMANDA:
Amanda has a twin sister and 3 younger brothers. She has a cat named Ruby. She enjoys collecting panda bears, sewing, cross stiching, and watching TV.
EDUCATION:
B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Texas Tech University
EXPERIENCE:
Amanda has been a teaching assistant for 3 years at Centennial Elementary. Prior to that, she taught 2 years in Midland. She has been with Sylvan since November 2008.
Marsha Ramirez
Instructor
ABOUT MARSHA:
Marsha has 5 children and 2 grandchildren. She enjoys collecting antique glass and singing. She is active in her church choir.
EDUCATION:
-- B.S. in Mathematics from Lubbock Christian University
-- Teacher's Certification from Texas Tech University
EXPERIENCE:
Martha's teaching resume is as follows: 6 years at Roosevelt High School, 18 years teaching math classes for homeschoolers, 4 years at Kingdom Preparatory Academy, and 23 years as a private math tutor. She has been with Sylvan since April 2006.
Jan Rinard
Instructor
ABOUT JAN:
Jan is married to Zac. She has a daughter named Krysta, a son in law named Toby, and a granddaughter named Kennedy. She enjoys animals, flower beds, clothes, and football. She is a financial advisor for Chi Omega and attends church at First United Methodist.
EDUCATION:
B.S. and Masters in Education from West Texas A&M
EXPERIENCE:
Jan has taught 1st through 9th grade, both regular and special ed for 35 years. She has been with Sylvan since March 2007.
Karen Storie

ABOUT KAREN:
Karen is married to Chris. She has 2 dogs, Thor and Odin, and 3 cats, Chester, Kitty, and Harry. She enjoys reading.
EDUCATION:
-- Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Texas Tech University
-- Teaching Certification in 1st through 8th grade
EXPERIENCE:
Karen currently teaches math and science at Amherst. Prior to that, she taught at Premier High School and was a substituted teacher with LISD. She has been with Sylvan since September 2009.
Bridget Saucedo
Facilitator
ABOUT BRIDGET:
Bridget has an 11 year old son named Jayden. She enjoys art (drawing and painting), sewing, and her son's baseball games.
EDUCATION:
Graduate degree from Texas Tech University in graphic design
EXPERIENCE:
Facilitator at Sylvan.
