Director of Education, Highlands Ranch tutoring

Kendra Peters

Director of Education

I am a native of Colorado and grew up in beautiful Boulder, CO. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Metropolitan State College and taught in a Core Knowledge school in Elizabeth, CO for six years. I was named assistant principal for a school in Castle Rock, CO and went to the University of Phoenix for my MA in Administration and Supervision in Education. I spent six years in that role and now am very excited to join Sylvan Learning Center as Director of Education. Knowing that all students can reach their full potential, I am looking forward to working with your student and watching their confidence grow!

When not at Sylvan, you will find me gardening, reading, or spending time with my husband, two grown children, and my granddaughter, who is the joy of my life!

Program Manager, Highlands Ranch tutoring

Cassandra Hergott

Program Manager

I grew up in Illinois and am the oldest of 3. I had wanted to be a teacher since the 2nd grade. I did well in math classes in high school, but found that I really enjoyed math when I learned how to teach it. I received my BA in Elementary Education with a math endorsement from Loras College in Iowa.

After teaching at Sylvan for 5 years, I left for other endeavors. But I was drawn back in January, 2011. I really enjoy helping students realize they can learn anything. Their faces light up when something clicks. I find that it is important to make what they are learning be relevant and meaningful to each student.

I have been at Sylvan for over 10 years, 7 as a Director of Education in Culver City, CA and the last 3 in Highlands Ranch as an instructor. I love the children and find satisfaction in watching them grow and achieve academic levels that they thought were beyond their capabilities.

My husband and I love living in Colorado, and Highlands Ranch, and even better our grandchildren live a short 5 minutes from us.

I hold a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. I went into teaching because of my awesome eighth grade teacher. I try to emulate him as a teacher: Kind and compassionate but he challenged students to be their best. I taught children with special needs for 5 years and have taught at Sylvan for 7 years. I love teaching because it is not dull! Working with kids is exciting, challenging and so rewarding.

I love to travel, watch indie films and am currently learning to become a better photographer.

Cathleen Sullivan

Instructor

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA, I studied psychology and French at LSU. At 21 I married my high school sweetheart and moved to Shreveport, where I finished my degree at LSU Shreveport. In January of 2010, we, as wide-eyed pioneers, finally uprooted and settled near our beloved Rocky Mountains. Since March of 2010, I have worked at Sylvan and enjoy substitute teaching as often as possible. One thing to know about me is that I value relationships. Not even backpacking in the wilderness can compare to how I feel about people. I love teaching because I love the people I work with: the students and the staff. At Sylvan, it is a privilege to watch students' confidence grow as they master skills. What a joy to be a part of those changes!

John Volpe

Advanced Math Instructor

I am a recent college graduate from the University of Wyoming. This is my first teaching job, but not my first teaching experience. Throughout high school and college I was a camp counselor at a Boy Scout summer camp. I really enjoy the outdoors and all of the great activities Colorado has to offer. I look forward to showing your child the amazing world behind mathematics.

I grew up living all over the world, bouncing between Washington, DC and places like Russia, Austria and the Czech Republic. After coming to Colorado at the end of high school, I continued my education at the University of Colorado studying Architectural Engineering. I've always enjoyed math and science and I love passing that knowledge on to our students at Sylvan!

My beautiful wife, Michelle, and I recently moved to the state of Colorado from Arizona. We have an Australian Shepherd, Toby, who is always active. I am committed to the belief that all students can learn, and it is my responsibility to ensure this gets accomplished through continual support and positive experiences.

I have been married since 2008 and our little family grew in 2010 with the arrival of our daughter, Ava. I love swimming, singing and the Chicago Bears! I also love teaching and think one of the best rewards in life is seeing a student's confidence and sense of amazement when they reach a goal or master a skill! I hold a BA in English and Elementary Education from Metropolitan State College of Denver and an MA in Youth and Family Ministries from Denver Seminary.
