The tutors of Long Beach Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Long Beach staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Long Beach Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Adriene White is newest addition to the Sylvan family in Long Beach. However, she was transferred from another location. Adriene has 11 years of experience in education. She currently possess a Master's Degree from Argosy University in Educational Leadership, Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Certificate in Early Childhood Education. Prior to working in Education she worked 10 years in law enforcement and felt a disconnect. After the birth of her daughter 15 yrs ago she felt the need of wanting to help families and students make the right educational choices. Working at Sylvan and seeing the transformation of students is such a rewarding experience.
Amy attended Orange Coast College and received an AA degree in Education in 2004. Transferred to Cal state Long Beach in 2004 and graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts and Multiple Subject Credential for K-8 with an authorization to teach 9th grade Algebra in 2007. Amy was recently married in October and some of her hobbies include bike riding and going to the beach. Amy has been with Sylvan Learning Center since March of 2010.
Caralyn has been with Sylvan Long Beach since January 2008. She taught all elementary grades (Pre-8), and directed a pre-school during her long teaching career. Caralyn holds a Master's Degree in Education, which she earned from California State University Long Beach, and a Lifetime California Teaching Credential (K-8). She currently teaches Language Arts for ELA students at a local charter middle school, in addition to her work at Sylvan. Caralyn states that her favorite part of working at Sylvan is working with the small groups of students and watching them grow in their skills, knowledge, and self-confidence.
Claire was born in London, England and came to the California when she was 10. She completed her bachelor’s degrees in Business Data Systems and Computer Science at California State University Dominguez Hills. She worked in the Aerospace industry for 8 years and decided after the birth of her daughter, that her true calling was working with children. She then completed her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and master’s degree in Computer Based Education. Claire really enjoys working with all of the students at Sylvan and seeing them progress.
Kimberly attended Cerritos Community College and graduated in 2004 with an AA degree in General Education. She transferred to Cal State Long Beach in 2004 and received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2007. The past five years she has worked as a substitute teacher in grades K-8 until she can get her own classroom. In addition, she has taught reading, writing, math, phonics, study skills, and handwriting classes for kids at Cypress College. In 2008, she started working at Sylvan Learning Center in Long Beach. She feels that it has been a wonderful experience working with students at Sylvan and being a part of their educational growth. When she’s not working she enjoys watching movies, cooking, and going on bike rides with her fiancé!
Laura graduated from California State University Long Beach with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Behavior. She also received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSULB. Laura has been working with students since her senior year in high school where she was inspired by her exploratory teaching elective class. She loves helping students maintain their strengths and working with them to conquer their academic weaknesses. Working with students has been an enriching experience for Laura. Some of her interests outside of teaching include bowling, hiking and photography.
