It Works!

"After a less than strong pre-algebra background in 7th grade, my daughter was struggling with her 8th grade math; falling behind and getting discouraged. My attempts to tutor her myself ended in frustration for both of us. I had my daughter evaluated at Sylvan and began a study plan with visits twice a week at Sylvan. Her study program went back over the holes in her knowledge, reinforcing the basics. Within six months, math was no longer a problem for my daughter and she now maintains an A- average (9th grade).
The thing I liked best about Sylvan was the management by the site owner and director. Sylvan was always flexible with our schedule changes. My daughter was allowed to shift study focus when school subject material required it and she was given access to the tutors to whom she responded the best. In other words, my local Sylvan office has a broad enough successful tutoring model, but is small enough to effectively fulfill our individual needs. To me, Sylvan was worth every penny we invested into my daughter's academic success."

"I was quite a distance from a math wizard and my rudimentary algebra skills were now greatly diminished. I knew I needed help, fast; a timeline for program completion loomed. But, I’m a bright enough guy, I’m resourceful, our community is blessed by a great Junior College as well as Sonoma State University, I’ll hire a college kid and be home free … Well, not exactly. The three kids I tried were all most earnest and very bright; all could do the math, none though could get down to my level.

Then I tried the Sylvan Learning Center. The Sylvan “way” was perfect for me. First, they reviewed my skills establishing my personal strengths and weaknesses. Then, beginning from my comfort zone they lead me to and through that which before was more than uncomfortable, and we worked up to where I needed to be. The ability to match me with the most compatible tutor was remarkable. The three to one ratio of student to teacher was perfect. I learned not only from the personal attention afforded me, but also from that being offered my tablemates.

Absent Sylvan, I don’t achieve my goal and certification. Thank you all, very, very much."

Independent Work

"My daughter is doing pre Algebra and so far has been doing all her homework herself. She is missing a few out of 30 questions but it is HUGE that she is working on it at all by herself and she has it done by the time I get home. The difference is like night and day. Thank you Sylvan!"
