"...Sylvan was the only program that worked."

"We were considering moving our family abroad and found out that the public school curriculum in the U.S. didn't measure up to schools in our target country. Our son is a great student, but we felt that extra help was needed to make the transition easier.

We tried other tutoring programs in Beaverton, but were met with extreme resistance and frustration from our son (which left us bit surprised -- he does well at school and completes his homework fast and without having to be reminded).

Sylvan was the only program that worked. The teachers formed close relationships with my son and I felt they truly tailored the lesson plans for him. They managed to motivate him to perform his best and I’ve seen improvement in his knowledge and skills.

My favorite story happened when I was on the phone with my sister and mentioned:
"It’s great, I think he really likes Sylvan."
Suddenly I hear my son retort: "No I don't!"
I was quite taken back: "You don't?"
He grinned: "I LOVE it!"

This, coming from a 10-year old boy who doesn't usually get this passionate about things, was incredibly gratifying. That moment gave me much needed affirmation that Sylvan was the right place for him, that the teachers picked the right approach for him, and that his passion for education has been rekindled.

Oh, and when I asked him what specifically he liked about Sylvan, he said: “It just isn’t boring.” He described how he loves good challenges and how nice it is to be working with teachers in this small of a setting. We feel very lucky we discovered Sylvan. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us."
