Teresa J Kowatch
Director of Student Services
Teresa is a native Oregonian who enjoys music, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She has a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education as well as some graduate course work from George Fox University. Teresa has been a member of this staff since 1998.
Rhonda S Leith
Director of Education
Rhonda is originally from Indiana. She loves the outdoors and enjoys all types of music. Rhonda graduated from Indiana University with a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education with a Music endorsement. She's certified as an elementary teacher in Indiana and Oregon. Rhonda comes to us with previous Sylvan experience and has been at this location for the past three years.
Terry Anderson
Teacher
Terry has been at Sylvan since 2008 after "retiring" from the classroom after 32 years! " I retired several years ago, but can't seem to stop teaching!" She enjoys working with students and watching them grow! When she is not busy at Sylvan she enjoys time with friends and her two cats, Cuddles and Tuffy.
Liz Laughlin
Teacher
Liz has been at Sylvan since 1996 - one of our treasured veterans! She also holds several degrees; computer programming, general science(BS) and a Master's degree from the University of Portland. "I like teaching at Sylvan because I can make sure ALL of my students learn what I'm teaching" When Liz is not busy at Sylvan she is working in her garden or working on her genealogy or talking a walk. She also has two furry friends, Boxer and Puff!
Carrie Haarsma
Teacher
Carrie has been at Sylvan since 2005. "I enjoy working at Sylvan not only because of the benefits I see in our student's lives but because I once was a Sylan Student!" Carrie holds a Master's degree in Special Education. During her free time she likes to read, watch movies and participate in Civil War reenactments.
James Bartel
Teacher
James holds a BS in education from Portland State and completed a Master's degree from City Universtiy in 2004. He has been teaching upper level math and study skills at Sylvan since 2005. His "other" job is chruch organist which he has been doing since the age of 14!
Nancy Waters
Teacher
Nancy brings 17 years of experience in public schools to her teaching at Sylvan. She started at Sylvan in 2000. What she likes best about Sylvan is the prescriptive approach to learning and working one-on-one with students!
