Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Kim Dorn

Center Director

Owner/ Center Director. Kim has owned and operated the center for over five years. She comes from a Business background.

She takes great pleasure in helping students raise self esteem and providing them with skills that will last a lifetime.

Carolyn Wallace

Test Administrator/Instructor

Carolyn joined our Sylvan Team in January 2007. She graduated from Corban College with her Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education.

She is a certified substitute teacher for Oregon and loves teaching at Sylvan. Her responsibilities range from teaching, testing and tech support.

Carolyn is also involved with teaching 2 years for a local MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) group.

Tracy West

Director of Education

Tracy West is Sylvan's Director of Education for middle and high school students.

She has a degree in regular and special education from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Tracy is married with two grown sons.

Tracy has been with Sylvan Learning Center since 1988 and has been at our center for the last five years. She truly enjoys the opportunity to work with students and their families.

Michelle Torseth

Director of Education

Michelle studied Elementary Education with a focus on Language Arts at Seattle Pacific University. After graduating, she subbed in K-8 classrooms in Washington state before moving down to Salem, OR.

Starting out as a part-time teacher at the center in 2010, Michelle found that she really loved Sylvan and what it can do for families. She found more and more ways to be involved on the staff at Sylvan of Salem until becoming a Director of Education this year.

Michelle is glad to be working with families in the Salem area and helping to boost confidence and knowledge in the students she manages.
