Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Sheila Reed
Director
Sheila owned a Sylvan Learning Center in the Bay Area of California before purchasing the center in Bend in 2004. Sheila is instrumental in the education community serving as a member of a site council for a local elementary, board member for the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, attending many school events, community functions and volunteering in the school district. Sheila's background includes business, education and psychology. Sheila and her husband, Jeff, moved to Bend in 2000, to raise their children in this beautiful community.
Audra-Marie Whitney
Director
Audra-Marie is from Central Oregon. She is a certified teacher in both Oregon and Massachusetts, graduating from Gordon College with degrees in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. She enjoys spending time traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Jan M.
Teacher, PreK-12, College Writing, SAT and ACT Specialist
Jan has been a teacher for 37 years. Her expertise is Reading and Math. She is also an expert in our College Writing, Advanced Speed Reading, SAT, and ACT prep programs. When she is not traveling to Greece, Vietnam, Iceland or Egypt you can find her volunteering with SMART Read, Healing Reins or Read Together. She also enjoys reading and gardening in her free time.

Teacher, PreK-9; Dyslexia Specialist
Nanci has been an educator for 15 years. She has a Masters in Education. When she is not teaching she enjoys spending time with the people she loves. She also enjoys hiking, swimming, and gardening.

Advanced Math, Science, and Engineering Teacher
Joel has recently relocated to Bend from Texas! Joel teaches some of our advanced math courses as well chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering!

Susan has recently moved to Bend from Arizona! While dodging the snow, Susan enjoys running. Susan teaches basic reading, writing, and math, as well as some of our advanced math courses.
