Jennifer Tanzy

Director of Education

Jennifer worked with Sylvan in Florida for 10 years prior to moving to Washington. She teaches the reading, writing, math, study skills, homework support, and SAT Prep programs. As diverse as the ages of students and subjects that Jennifer teaches, her interests follow suit. Jennifer is active in dance and is a sci-fi junkie.

Ann Shultz

Teacher

Ann has 18 years of teaching experience in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. She has been with Sylvan for 3 years and teaches reading, writing, and math. Ann and her husband have a very diverse collection of pets at home. Ask her about them sometime!

Paula Thomas

Teacher

Originally from Oklahoma, Paula graduated from Oklahoma University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She later went on to earn her Masters Degree in Special Education from Texas Women's University. Paula's educational experience includes teaching English and Math overseas in Honduras, and working with local resource and alternative education programs.

Jamie Lund

Teacher

Jamie received her undergraduate degree in Music from Walla Walla College and her master's degree from Western Washington University. She taught high school music in North Dakota before returning to the NW. She loves working at Sylvan because she really feels that she makes a difference in the lives of her students.

Jim Taylor

Teacher

Jim received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State and went on to have over 40 years of experience as an aerospace engineer at companies including Boeing. Jim decided that he wanted to try his hand at teaching instead and discovered how much he enjoyed working with upper level math students. When he is not working at Sylvan, Jim loves spending time with his 16 grandchildren!

Maurie Conner

Teacher

Maurie received both his Bachelor's in Art Education and his Master's in Studio Art from Ball State University in Indiana. He's now retired from many years teaching in both public and private schools. He loves the challenge of helping his students overcome their struggles and find success. When he's not at Sylvan, Maurie and his wife love to garden and go to movies.

Sandra Rice

Teacher

Sandra is a proud Huskie graduate from the University of Washington. She received her Master's in Teaching from City University. She currently teaches upper level math and science classes in the public school. Sandra loves working with Sylvan so much that after her wedding on 08/08/08, she transfered from the Ballard Sylvan to Auburn.

Caitlin Mann

Teacher

Caitlin is a recent transplant to WA from Collegedale, TN, where she received her teaching degree from Southern Adventist University. Caitlin's experience runs the gamut from Kindergarten to college in both public and private schools. When she's not at Sylvan, Caitlin loves to travel, sew, hike, and read.

Heather White

Instructor

Heather recieved both a Bachelor of Arts in Health/Fitness and a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science from Central Washington University. She currently teaches at Decatur High School in Federal Way. She enjoys working with children and helping them connect their learning to the real world. In her spare time Heather enjoys playing golf, when the weather permits, and going to concerts.

Vivian Brennan

Instructor

Vivian received her Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology/Biology from the University of Washington; her teacher’s certification from Texas A & M; and is currently working on her Master’s degree in Education. She has previously taught public school in both Texas and Seattle; and is a retired Coast Guard Reserve Chief Warrant Officer. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, Christopher, and daughter, Jenna. She enjoys gardening, reading, camping, and exploring the outdoors.

Renee Pedersen

Instructor

Renee has been at Auburn Sylvan since December 2008, but has worked with other Sylvans in the Puget Sound area for the past 3 years. She is currently a para-educator and volunteer coordinator at Neely O'Brien Elementary in the Kent School District. Renee has a passion for teaching and she thoroughly enjoys watching her students's faces when the "light bulb" goes off. When she's not at Sylvan Renee enjoys scrap-booking, reading, and planning her wedding!

Juanita Herrera

Instructor

Juanita was born in Indiana and has moved many times throughout her life. She spent the majority of her childhood in Northern CA and graduated from Sacramento State with a Bachelor's in Humanities and Religious Studies, as well as a Master's in Special Education. Juanita loves working with all people, especially individuals with disabilities. In her free time, she loves reading and cooking.

Ellouise Carroll

Instructor

Dr. Ellouise Carroll has two grown sons and has loved and taught youngsters for over 40 years. She has a chapter in the nationally published book Surviving the American High Tech Diet and is a speaker on children's nutrition for Get Healthy, America. When she is not at Sylvan, Ellouise is a guest teacher in the Auburn School District and is a Field Supervisor for City University. In her spare time, she enjoys race walking, reading, and singing.
