Sylvan's tutors teach skills that last a lifetime. We help students learn how to become self-motivated and achieve independence; above all else, we enable them to approach school — and life — with confidence.
We also maintain Sylvan tutoring special offers and seasonal promotions that make getting your child on the road to success easier.
Did you know that independent research indicates that preparing for the SAT test also helps students prepare for the rigors of college writing? Did you also know that students can increase their scores on the SAT by 30 points simply by being exposed to a practice test? Our SAT program offers you multiple practice tests, in addition to 30 hours of class, in a class setting of 8 or fewer students. Please call to schedule your initial testing and consultation. Have 3 friends interested? We'll set up a seminar just for you!
This wonderful class is a short "speed reading" seminar that we are offering to students in 7th grade and up. In this course, kids learn to increase their reading speed while maintaining or increasing their comprehension. This 12 hour class has between 3 and 6 students. Give us a call to get started!
Is your child "in a winter slump" when it comes to academic motivation and performance?
January is the perfect time to help your child get excited about learning in the second half of the school year.
Many students admit that they are reluctant to ask for assistance because they feel alone in their struggles. Students need someone who is patient to help them better understand - a parent, a teacher or a supplemental education provider.
JoAnna, a 14 year-old ninth grader in middle school, participated in Sylvan's Math Essentials program from October 2006 - August 2007. "When JoAnna began having problems with math in the beginning of middle school, my husband and I blamed moving to a new state for her academic trouble. We thought that she would be able to pull herself up, but, when she continued to struggle in 8th grade, we knew she need help." says Kimberly, JoAnna's mother.
Kimberly credits Sylvan for providing an academic foundation that has allowed her daughter to graduate from Sylvan's math course to the Study Skills program where she has learned how to become a better student by utilizing effective strategies in organization, note-taking, researching, using her personal learning style to study and learning how to approach taking tests without anxiety.
Sylvan's Study Skills instructors are trained and certified to emphasize skill and confidence building and understand that, when a student feels less stressed and more confident towards schoolwork, her interest increases. This allows the child to learn faster and more efficiently, and to retain more information with greater accuracy.
"The Sylvan experience has been successful for my daughter. Sylvan's personalized instruction filled in JoAnna's skill gaps and has allowed her to succeed in middle school while helping to build an academic foundation for high school success," adds Kimberly.
