Carolyn started her Sylvan career as a teacher in 2003. She has been a Kindergarten teacher as well as active with the E.C.C. Head Start program. After learning about the Sylvan programs and philosophy, she began doing administrative work. Carolyn communicates regularly with parents and teachers to help students reach their goals. When she isn’t at work, she can be found in the garden, walking the pugs and going on fun outings with her husband.
Tanya graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in journalism. She has been lucky enough to try a myriad of different careers, including newspaper reporter, editor, litigation manager and teacher. She loves volunteering and has been PTA President, Book Fair Chairperson and organizer for many basketball events – all sharing the common theme of involving her children. She is married and has two sons. Her favorite things to do are travel and spend time with her family.
Kelly was born in Bremerton, but grew up in Nebraska. She received her degree in English Education from the University of South Dakota in 2007. Following graduation, she moved back to Washington and taught Language Arts for three years at area junior high and high schools. Like any English teacher, Kelly loves books, and spends her free time reading.

Heather received a BA in Education from Pacific Lutheran University in 2007. For the past two years, she has served as a dedicated Sylvan instructor, while also working as a substitute teacher in the Tacoma School District. During the week, she volunteers by mentoring middle school kids from the local area.
Charlotte teaches Special Education at Gray Middle School. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Antioch University and a Special Education endorsement from Seattle Pacific University. She spends her time off chasing after her two children.
Robert received his Associates of Arts in Mathematics from Pierce College. He also took classes at Pacific Lutheran University. He volunteered as a math tutor in the Steilacoom Historical District from 2007 – 2009. Robert is passionate about math and enjoys teaching students strategies to be more successful.

Kristine was born and raised in Tacoma and graduated from Clover Park High School. She earned her B.A. in English and Secondary Education from the University of Oregon and a Masters in Education with Emphasis on Reading and Basic Skills from the University of Puget Sound. She and her husband enjoy golf, skiing, gardening, reading, and traveling to visit their grown son and daughter.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from U.P.S., Darlene taught as a 5th grade teacher for 6 years. She joined the Sylvan family about 12 years ago. Most importantly, Darlene enjoys working with students of all ages and seeing them gain the self confidence and success at Sylvan that transfers so well to their school classroom.

Paul taught for 30 years in the University Place School District. He came to work at Sylvan after his retirement in 1995. He has been a dedicated teacher ever since.
Michelle graduated from PLU in the spring of 2005. She received a teaching job at Curtis Senior High School in University place, WA, where she teaches US History, Geography and Psychology. She has taught Academic Reading, Beginning Reading and Math at Sylvan since 2005. In addition to teaching, she also coaches the girls lacrosse team at Curtis.

Samuel was born in Tacoma, but grew up on the outskirts of Gig Harbor. He was home-schooled through high school. In 2011, he graduated from Tacoma Community College with an Associates in Arts and Sciences as well as high honors. He currently volunteers as a committee member and as a Math Mentor for Communities In Schools Peninsula.

Paula attended fifth through ninth grades in Lakewood, where her father was stationed in the Air Force. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Teaching German and a Masters in Teaching from the University of Oregon in 1978. Afterwards, she traveled to Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship, returning to the Northwest where she has been teaching Technology in private schools for over 16 years and Math at Bates Technical College for the past two years. She enjoys tutoring at the Tacoma Sylvan.

Sean was born in Tacoma in 1988. He attended Truman Middle School and continued on to Woodrow Wilson High. After spending some time at Wilson, Sean started the Fresh Start Program at T.C.C where he earned his high school diploma. He is currently working towards building transfer credits for his electrical engineering degree. He enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle and volunteering at his local YMCA.

As a Sylvan tutor, Gail is putting to use her background in elementary education. She is certified in Washington State as a Continuing Teacher in Elementary Education, K-8 and Biology, 4-12, with a Master of Education in Science Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. She loves working with elementary students, and spent twenty years teaching fourth and fifth grades in the Auburn School District and Federal Way Public Schools. Gail has enlarged her perspective and increased her skills with younger students by substituting and working with primary summer school programs. Now at Sylvan, she has the chance to work with students from pre-kindergarten to high school. In her free time she loves to practice her photography, read good books, walk on the beach and play with her two cats.
Danielle graduated from Curtis High School and got her Associates of Arts from Pierce College. She is currently attending Central Washington University. Her major is Law and Justice.
