February is Lacey Loves to Read month!
Lacey Loves to Read is a fabulous local literacy program developed by the North Thurston School District. Each year a unique and diverse author comes to Lacey during the month of February to celebrate literacy and showcase his or her body of work. Students in the district get involved on many levels - from designing book marks and artwork to attending author seminars and book readings. All community members are welcome to attend a variety of events detailed on the North Thurston School District web site. Sylvan has been a proud sponsor of this award-winning community program for the past 5 years.
2011/2012’s guest author illustrator is Richard Jesse Watson. Richard Jesse Watson is an award-wining author illustrator of more than a dozen books. Mr. Watson is a local author residing in Port Townsend, WA. To learn more about Richard Jesse Watson go to www.richardjessewatson.com.
The Olympia Sylvan services families in more than 25 different School Districts. In the case of snow and ice we DO NOT follow one particular district’s closure policies. Please call the center directly at 360-438-1833 if you have a question or concern about inclement weather conditions.
***Make-ups for last week’s snow days on January 18th and 19th may be scheduled at your convenience.
The staff at the Olympia Sylvan would be happy to help your student's school with special celebrations. Consider having us sponsor snacks for a staff meeting, classroom set-up, teachers, librarians and school counselor appreciation weeks, or state testing week.
PeggySue, Olympia Sylvan Director of Education and Math Program Manager, recently hosted a free event entitled, "Scary Math Night for Parents and Students." Math, including Algebra, can be a student's toughest - scariest- subject. Often, parents share the same anxiety. This free event focused on, Fun with Fractions, Dynamic Decimals, and Insight into Integers.
Our next Free Event is in January 2012 and will focus on Test Anxiety.
