Brenda"Brenda came to Sylvan during the summer prior to the sixth grade. She was really struggling in math and did not want to have a repeat of the difficulties in the fifth grade. Sylvan diagnostic testing revealed multiple skill gaps going as far back as the third grade. Brenda worked very hard at Sylvan and also practiced her math facts at home. Once she began her sixth grade year, it was apparent that she had grown significantly and was closing the gap between her and her peers. In November, Mom and Dad were excited to report that her grade in math was an “A” and her other class grades had risen as well. Brenda now had all A’s and B’s! |
Hayley"Hayley was a complete joy to have in Sylvan. She was always smiling and doing her best to become a great reader! When she came to Sylvan she was being considered for retention at school and was having extreme difficulty with letter recognition and phonics. Her bright smile and cheerful attitude was hidden by an absolute fear of reading. Haley was also having trouble with speech and visual tracking. After a summer of hard work, she was able to move on to the next grade and her continued success at Sylvan moved her ahead of the class. She completed her program at Sylvan with flying colors! |
Morgan"Morgan was getting in trouble at school, failing to turn in homework, and fighting dad every step of the way when homework actually did come home. Dad watched Morgan carefully at home and began to wonder why school was becoming such a negative force to an otherwise polite boy. Confidence!! We put together a program for Morgan in Academic Reading. With constant positive reinforcement and visions of success, Morgan beat our estimates handily. He even received the citizenship award two months in a row. Dad is thrilled: |
Micah"Micah came to us as a home-school student that had lost all interest in reading. Watching his peers read with ease brought his confidence level to new lows. He felt inadequate in all facets of reading, from playing scrabble to reading magazines his parents had purchased for him. Micah worked hard in every subject and was a model student, however his frustrations with reading were beginning to weigh on his progress at home. Mom and dad enrolled Micah in our Academic Reading Program in hopes of getting him back on track. |
Mathew"Matt’s mom and grandparents came to us after countless hours of frustration spent trying to help him read. Matt was in the RAP program at school and losing confidence in his abilities at an unfortunate pace. Talk between the school and mom was beginning to center on whether Matt needed help focusing during school. The initial testing at Sylvan showed multiple skill gaps that were holding him back. The directors constructed a program for him with a goal of having him removed from the RAP program by the end of the school year. It worked. His mom couldn’t be happier: |
Kylee"Kylee really hit the door running at Sylvan. She was having some difficulty reading at school and asked her mom if she could attend Sylvan. Othello is quite a trip, but mom weighed the possible benefits and decided to give it a try. Two times a week for two hours each visit through the winter months wasn’t easy at all, but they persevered! Mom is ecstatic: |
Julia"Julia came to Sylvan during her sixth grade year. She was not very far behind her peers, however, mom was noticing that Julia was becoming less interested in reading and was beginning to struggle during homework time. Sylvan diagnostic testing revealed a few skill gaps in her reading. She was reading close to the level of her peers, but her parents wanted to see the level of confidence she displayed in previous years. Her teachers at school noticed a difference before the end of the first month!! |
