The tutors of Omaha Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Omaha Center staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Omaha Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Lori has been a Sylvan Learning Center franchisee and owner for almost 15 years. She currently owns the Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, North Platte, Columbus, and Norfolk territories. Prior to Sylvan ownership, Lori was a high school and middle level classroom teacher in Butler County for 15 years. Lori and her husband Jerry have been married for 30 years and live in Abie, NE. They are both very involved in many community activities and the Special Olympics. Lori and Jerry have three adult sons and a grand-daughter.
Jim comes to Sylvan with 42 years of experience in education; high school English teacher 3 years, high school principal 18 years, preK-12 superintendent 15 years, Assistant to the Dean of Creighton's School of Pharmacy 6 years. Jim's wife, Nancy Martin-Rouse, is an awesome person and artist/art teacher at her in-home studio. Jim and Nancy have three married children and 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 15 years to 3 weeks, with 4 living in Omaha and 4 in Minnesota. Jim enjoys golf, but hasn't figured out why, and occasionally grows some vegetables that are edible.
Toni is a veteran educator; having taught at both the elementary and secondary levels, as well as some work at the collegiate level. She is an active mom, and has five children, two of them at home. She enjoys cooking, reading and spending time outdoors.
Ally has been part of the Sylvan team for over 7 years, first as an instructor at the Omaha Center, then as one of the Directors of Education at the Bellevue Center. She has her first degree in Family and Consumer Sciences UNL, 2000) and her Elementary Education degree (UNO, 2003). Ally takes pride in watching students thrive and realize their potential. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cheering on her Huskers and Cubbies, and being mom to her 4 year old son and a baby boy who arrived in November.
Matt has been a teacher for Sylvan Learning Center for four years. In addition to teaching all of the academic programs offered at Sylvan, Matt also teaches our ACT Preparation Program. He has an B.A. in Social Science from Western Governors University (2009) and a B.S. in Physical Education from Peru State College (2002). He currently works as a substitute teacher for several Omaha metro area schools, and coaches wrestling at Lewis and Clark Middle School (Bellevue). Matt enjoys working out, riding bikes with his wife, playing with his dogs and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
Jackie has been a popular instructor with Sylvan for more than 6 years. She comes to us with many years of classroom experience. Jackie teaches our Beginning Reading and Academic Reading Programs. She has two children and five beautiful grand-children.
Bill earned a Master of Education in Educational Administration at The College of New Jersey. He currently works for Millard Public Schools as the Director of the International Baccalaureate program. Bill is married to Inna Kulagina from Russia. They spent their honeymoon on Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia, where they slept in yurts, ate fresh fish, hiked the mountian, and twice saw the world's only freshwater seals - considered a good omen by the locals. Inna is an artist and art teacher. Bill and Inna have a four year old son, Alexander.
Charles Kuhns has worked in pharmaceuticals for 12 years as a plant manager, 12 years in computer technology as a Senior Software Developer, and 12 years in education as a math teacher in middle school and high school. Chuck is currently working on a Master of Educational Administration degree at UNO. Chuck has four children and enjoys art and coaching football.
Leah has a B.A. in Elementary Education form UNK. She currently works as a substitute teacher for the metro area schools. Leah loves reading and is learning to play the violin. She is an AWANA leader. And, Leah LOVES fractions!
Alicia is new to our team. She comes to us with a B.S. in Elementary Education, with an Early Childhood emphasis, from Northwest Missouri State University. Alicia works primarily with our Beginning and Academic Reading Programs.
Alex is working on her B.A. in Elementary Education at UNO. She started with Sylvan as a high school student pulling educational materials for instructors, she's recently been promoted to Assessment Administrator. Alex is a newlywed and enjoys spending time with her two younger sisters and nephew. Alex also finds time to read, bake, listen to music and scrapbook.
