Sylvan's Medicine Hat tutors teach skills that last a lifetime. We help students learn how to become self-motivated and achieve independence; above all else, we enable them to approach school — and life — with confidence.
September 2008 - Here in Medicine Hat the school year is ramping up. Students, teachers and parents have many adjustments to make with new schedules as students advance into higher grade levels. For some of your children, there is added stress as they change schools, enter high school, or begin grade 12.
We all have high hopes that students will excel. But we can do more than just have high hopes. Together with parents and teachers, we at Sylvan Learning, will work with your child to give them a great start, now, before the stress of homework, tests, mid term exams, Canadian Achievement Test or Provincial Diploma Exams start to take their toll.
Now is the opportune time for you to enroll or re-enroll your child in one of Sylvan Learning’s many programs, so that they can catch up, keep up, and get ahead. Our programs can be tailored to suit your child’s needs. Your child will benefit from one, more than one, or a combination of the programs we offer. These include: Math Essentials (grades 1-8), Algebra, Study Skills, Homework Help, and Academic Reading, Writing or Grammar.
Please feel free to call us any time to arrange an assessment and choose from the many available instructional hour time slots. This year our instructional hours are Tuesdays to Thursdays 1:30 – 7:30 pm, Fridays 1:30-6:30 pm, and Saturdays 9:30 am – 1:30 pm. You may also drop by our center at 3341 Dunmore Rd S.E., to speak with us about how we can work with you to make this year a successful one for your child.

August 2008 - The month of July has been a busy time here in Medicine Hat, with students taking advantage of Sylvan Learning’s summer programs and our “Catch Up, Keep Up, and Get Ahead” principles of learning. Sylvan Learning of Medicine Hat participated in “Read Across America Week” last month (March 3-6). As part of this event, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with contests and activities for all the students and teachers. The center was colorfully decorated in Dr. Seuss theme with books, posters, and story characters.
For our kick off event, all students who had improved on their academic reading testing were entered in a draw. The six draw winners won tickets to the Kalan Porter contest on March 3. The event was a great way to show the kids to follow their dreams and work to their individual potential.
Forty-six students participated in the week’s activities, contests and challenges to compete for prizes including: Coles Books gift certificates, Dr. Seuss stuffed toys and books, as well as movie passes to the movie “Horton Hears a Who.” The week long contests included reading challenges, redesigning book covers, writing book reports, as well and costume and trivia contests. There was even a Dr. Seuss themed birthday cake every day of the week. Congratulations to all the contest winners: Ellis C., Kayla C., Brent F., Brittney F., D’Jhonna F., Sydney M., Brittney M., Thomas P., Avery S., Brandon S., Lincoln S., Maralynn S., and Valerica W.
