Success Stories

A Proud Parent

"I have son currently enrolled in the Sylvan Reading program. My husband and I were looking to get help for him. He was in the public school system but had missed out on help for the first three year of schooling. The school lost his paper work and then was lacking in assessors. So by the time he was assessed he was already behind in his reading skill. Being assessed with dyslexia at the school and depressed. We pulled him out of school and finish the year home schooling. Which gave him a chance to realize that it was just the way he learned was different. The next year we put him in school because having to younger children at home made it hard to keep flowing and enrolled him in Sylvan was the next step we felt necessary. I felt it was necessary because both my husband and I went through school and suffered with our own problems with reading. We both felt there needed to be some other form of help. Neither of us would foot the bill to help our son. I also have many members of my family who are or have taught in the public system who recommended that he would be helped. I also have members who have used the Sylvan program to help their kids with improving normal school work and was very happy with the results.
So we enrolled our son. It took a little while to see results. Even though it was not instant the results are positive. He reads thing which he would try to get out of by having someone read for him. He always tries first before asking or questioning if it is right. He helps in the school reading program where they read to younger students. And thing about Sylvan I notice most is how positive he is when he comes out. He is happier in school although it will always be hard when it comes to reading. This program has helped him. I still can’t believe how positive the kids are when they come out the door. And how realizing that there is more then just a select few people who need more help outside of school can help create a new outlook for him. He is turning in to a young man who seems to not feel limited. I believe now with the knowledge that there is positive environment where everyone is there to get help for something that knowledge will help make his life easier. I give thanks to the teachers who have helped him and my son for sticking to it. If you can afford it, it is worth the effort."
