Director, Towson tutoring

Melissa Kent

Director

Melissa is our dedicated, passionate Director. She joined us in early 2008 after years of devoted service as a Special Educator. Her experience in Special Education gives her the skills and knowledge to develop and implement individualized programs for every student enrolled at Sylvan-Towson.

Melissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History with a minor in Psychology, and also earned her Masters Degree in Education-Secondary Education.

Kate has been a member of the Sylvan family for more than 6 years. Her long history with the company has left her with an extensive knowledge of our programs and how they can meet the needs of every family.

She loves to spend her weekends camping and traveling around the east coast.

Our reading tutors are all maryland certified teachers who love teaching so much they join us after school and during the summer to help students achieve greater success.

Our math teachers are highly qualified most posessing mulitple degrees in mathematics and all trained and certified by our directors here at Sylvan in Towson.

They come from all over the area, traveling from Parkville, Lutherville, Timonium, Overlea, White Marsh and Perry Hall to join us afterschool, weekends, and summer.

Roberta Sachs, M.Ed.

Program Director- Admissions Accomplished

    Roberta Garfield Sachs is the Program Director of our newest offering called ADMISSIONS ACCOMPLISHED.  Roberta brings over 30 years of educational expertise to Sylvan. She holds a BS Degree from the University of Maryland and an M.Ed.  from Johns Hopkins University.  As an educator, she has taught elementary education and reading resource in Baltimore and Howard Counties, as well as spending many years as an administrator in the Baltimore independent school community.  Her years of experience as a director of admissions and financial aid, as well as school placement counselor, make Roberta an excellent resource to those families looking to make important educational decisions for their children.  "Often times, parents have no idea that they have choices when it comes to where their child goes to school, what they learn, and how they are taught.  My role at Sylvan Towson is to educate families as to how to better educate their children", she states.  

   Over the years, Roberta has been honored with the AIMS Ford Fellowship Award, The Levinson Award and The Mannekin Award,  all for recognition of excellence in teaching and program development
