Centre Director, Surrey tutoring

Melanie Bannister

Centre Director

With a teaching degree and strong background in math and sciences, Melanie could have worked anywhere in public education; she chose Sylvan. She began her Sylvan career in 1992 where she worked as an instructor at the Tsawwassen location and quickly moved her way up to Centre Director. “I can give my students the individual attention here. Self-esteem and learning go hand-in-hand, but in the classroom it is difficult to touch each child.” Melanie is inspirational to her students. Through her own experiences (basketball player, high achiever, and mother) she knows, “If you believe you can achieve… I love empowering kids to reach their goals.” When Melanie graduated from UBC in 1990 she wanted, “A challenging position in a company that would utilize my leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills and provide opportunities for advancement.” She couldn’t have found a more perfect fit than with Sylvan Learning. She is currently Centre Director for the White Rock location.

She states, "Sylvan provides me with the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of many, many children."
