Thrilled with Math Progress!

"Simon Zuniga came to Sylvan of Baytown for help with his Math. He was transitioning to public school and his family wanted to make sure that he was ready academically for the school year to begin. They brought him to Sylvan and had him tested. Simon’s mom told us that he did not like to do Math and that it took him several hours to do his homework. Since attending Sylvan of Baytown, Simon is now working at a much faster pace and his confidence in Math, and in himself, has grown tremendously!

"When Hailey Pence came to Sylvan of Baytown, her grades had been declining and she was having quite a few struggles, particularly with math. Her school had even suggested that Hailey would need to attend summer school. After testing Hailey, we recognized she had challenges with her basic facts and needed help in several areas. After attending for only two months, Hailey has become very successful at school and is much more confident in her abilities.

Her mother says, “Before enrolling Hailey at Sylvan, she was struggling with math and reading. The test that Sylvan of Baytown offered, gave us information we needed to see what grade level Hailey was actually performing at. "Sarita Donaie has been attending Sylvan of Baytown since the end of her 3rd year in grade school. When she first came to Sylvan, she was struggling in Math, especially long division. She soon enrolled in Sylvan’s Math Essentials Program and has made tremendous growth. In only 36 hours of instruction, she grew one and a half grade equivalents from where she originally tested!

Life Changes

"Jermane Boyd came to Sylvan Learning Center of Baytown because he couldn’t read. Homework time was extremely frustrating and it would often end with Jermane crying. Mom (Monica) had tried everything from helping him at home to after school tutoring. Nothing seemed to be helping Jermane read and Monica felt like she was running out of time.

“I cannot thank the entire staff enough for what they have done for my son. Everyone that is a part of Jermane’s life cannot believe the difference Sylvan has made for Jermane. He went from not even wanting to look at a book to wanting to read to anyone and everyone who will listen to him. Jermane even won the Principal’s Award of Excellence the last six weeks. I was so amazed that even his elementary school principal had noticed a huge change in Jermane. I am so thankful that there was a financing plan available to me. "“Our son Spencer James had been in private school for two years. "Marcus has been coming to Sylvan since June. He is enrolled in Sylvan’s Beginning Reading program. Before Marcus first started at Sylvan of Baytown, his teachers doubted he would advance to the second grade. Since then, Marcus has gained the skills needed to read on his own. He is going to be advancing into the Academic Reading program this fall and is currently in the second grade!

"Jazmine has been working so hard here at Sylvan of Baytown! She is enrolled in the Math Essentials program. Last week Jazmine brought in a STACK of graded papers from school to her tutoring session. She had earned a perfect score on all of them and was so excited to share her grades with the staff here! Since attending, Jazmine has been able to carry over what she is learning at Sylvan of Baytown into the classroom and she has developed great confidence in herself. We are so proud of Jazmine!

"Haylee came to the Baytown area after moving from another city in the middle of her first grade year. Expectations at her new school were very different and it was obvious that Haylee’s reading level was not where it was suppose to be. Mom and Dad were extremely concerned that Haylee may have to repeat the first grade. Haylee would get very discouraged and she felt that she would never be able to read as well as her peers. After enrolling at the Baytown Sylvan Learning Center, Haylee’s attitude towards reading began to change. Over the course of the summer, Haylee was able to increase her reading skills and she entered the second grade with a renewed confidence. She is now a straight “A” student and has been recommended to be placed in an advanced reading class next year. Haylee even passed a third grade level state practice test even though she is only a second grader.

“We want to thank all of the wonderful teachers at Sylvan. When we moved here last year, we were shocked to learn that our daughter Haylee was very behind in reading at her new school. I was heartbroken as a mother to watch my very outgoing and confident child become very upset and introverted. She didn't want to even attempt to read and was always upset about homework. She spent most of her summer at Sylvan last year and by the time she finished the program that was set up for her, she didn't want to leave. She now loves to read and wows us everyday with how much and how fast she has learned. She is always proud to stop by Sylvan and show her report cards, which is straight A's. A Second Chance

"Chauncey had always made all A's in the private preschools she had attended. However, the transition from private school to public school her 2nd grade year was very difficult. She went directly into the Gifted and Talented program and struggled terribly until her 5th grade school year. That summer she began attending Sylvan. Her comprehension and her grades improved drastically. She is now in the 7th grade. She was commended last year on the TAKS test and

Transformation

"“It is amazing to see the transformation in John-Paul after attending the Baytown Sylvan.

He does not dread getting up and going to school, at least no more than any 15-year does. He also has been doing homework and even studying, all without me having to nag!!! He has been going to events with friends, when before he would never go. Even his disposition has changed. He is not as short-tempered, and he even has done several of his routine chores without prompting. We have not had one phone call from the school thus far and historically we would have had several by now.

This all may not sound like much, but to my husband and I it is as if he is a new person. We now see self-confidence and contentment that has been absent for sometime now.
