Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Cypress Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Cypress staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. Cypress Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Amber Cook
Center Director
Certified Mathematics Instructor 
Amber Cook is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing, she is also a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. She spent many years with a career working corporate for a large Houston-based company, but decided to pursue her passion of working in the education field. Amber attended a university graduate alternative certification program with an emphasis on EC 4-8 Generalist. At Sylvan, Amber enjoys helping families and seeing students succeed-both academically and personally.
Rachel Groschke
Director of Education
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Rachel is a graduate of Texas State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science. She is also certified to teach Science 4th-8th. In her free time, Rachel enjoys music, health and fitness. At Sylvan, she is passionate about hands on teaching and individualizing education based on a student’s needs.
Warren Akhtar
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Warren is a graduate of the University of Houston where he earned Bachelors degrees in Biology and Psychology. He is also certified to teach Reading/Language Arts. In his free time, Warren enjoys music, art and travel. At Sylvan, he enjoys the personalized attention given to students.
Warren is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Study Skills, Advanced Math, SAT/ACT, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trig, Physics and Homework Support.
Anthony June
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Anthony is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. He is also certified to teach Art EC-12. In his free time, Anthony enjoys music, drawing and graphic design. At Sylvan, he enjoys seeing students skills improve and gain confidence.

Sherry Clark
Certified Mathematics Instructor
I am a native Texan! After high school, I spent 4 and a half years in the United States Air Force working in electronics. When I was discharged, I attended the University of Houston and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I taught math for 2 years at Memorial High School and middle school math for 8 years at Resurrection Catholic School. Working at Sylvan is great and I am a Certified Math Instructor for Sylvan. Since the student-to-teacher ratio is small, it does not take long to get to know the students. Therefore, I am able to spend more time with the individual students than in a traditional classroom and motivate them to do better.
Deborah Guel
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Deborah is a graduate of Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor is Studio Art. She is also certified to teach Standard Generalist EC-4th with an ESL Supplemental. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. At Sylvan, she enjoys working one on one with students.
Susan Nabors
Certified Instructor
Susan is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters in Education. She is also a state certified teacher. In her free time, Susan enjoys reading, spending time with friends and football. At Syvlan, she enjoys experiencing student academic success.

Christina Pipkin
Certified Instructor
Christina is a graduate of Spelman College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4, EC-8 and ESL. In her free time, Christina enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with the students and helping them become live long learners.

Sheree Walpole
Certified Instructor
Sheree is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist and EC-4 ESL. In her free time, Sheree enjoys spending time with friends and family and her dogs.

Karima Vohra
Certified Instructor
Karima is a graduate of Western Governors University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is also certified to teach K-8. In her free time, Karima enjoys outside activities and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys the hands on teaching.

Erin Negron

Erin is a graduate of Abilene Christian University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4th and ESL. In her free time, Erin enjoys spending time with friends and family and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with the students and teachers.

Debbie McCabe

Debbie is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education/Speech Therapy. She is certified to teach PK-12th. In her free time, Debbie enjoys reading, genealogy and handwriting analysis. At Sylvan, she enjoys the small group setting and seeing academic improvement.

Alexandra Presnal

Alexandra is a graduate of Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is also certified to teach EC-6 Generalist 4-8 English/Language Arts/Reading and ESL. In her free time, Alexandra enjoys running and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys the individualized instruction and getting to know her students.

Anne Eichler

Anne is a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist. In her free time, Anne enjoys cooking and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students feel successful.

Mary Plumb
Certified Instructor
Mary attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in German Education. After graduation, she spent 18 months in Munich, Germany, honing her language skills. She taught for 22 years in the Klein Independent School District before retiring. She enjoys helping students and watching them progress as well as the opportunity to work with many different age levels and skills.
Mary Jane Bisesi
Certified Instructor
Mary Jane is a graduate of C.W. Post College where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education and Sam Houston State University where she earned her Masters in Education. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education grades 1-8th, Mentally Retarded PK-12th and Learning Disabilities grades PK-12th. In her free time, Mary Jane enjoys cooking, baking, reading and needlework. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with a group of students who will receive a lot of individual instruction.
Laurie Prest
Certified Instructor
Laurie is a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. She is also certified to teach EC-4th Generalist, ESL EC-6th and English/Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies grades 4-8th. In her free time, Laurie enjoys reading, ballroom dancing and riding horses. At Sylvan, she enjoys watching the students grow in self confidence with each new success.
Samantha Richmond
Certified Instructor
Samantha is a graduate of Emporia State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Standard Generalist TX and EC-6 Provisional Generalist. In her free time, Samantha enjoys learning American Sign Language. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with small groups of fantastic students.

Mayra Vargas
Certified Instructor
Mayra is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Academic Studies. She is also certified Generalist EC-4 and Bilingual Supplement. In her free time, Mayra enjoys reading, hiking and running. At Sylvan, she enjoys focusing on the needs of each and every student.

Kathleen McCauley
Certified Instructor
Kathleen is a graduate of Colorado University at Boulder where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Masters in Education from Regis University. She is also certified to teach Secondary Language Arts. In her free time, Kathleen enjoys running, yoga and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys meeting new children and seeing their progress.

Rita Coday
Certified Instructor
Rita received her bachelor’s degree from L.S.U. She completed a post baccalaureate program at U.H., where she earned a teaching certificate in Elementary Education (1-8) and a teaching certificate in Health Education (1-8). She worked in Cy-Fair for 4 ½ years where she taught Math, Science, Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies and a program for struggling readers. In her spare time, she loves participating in sports and traveling, but mostly, raising her 8 month old infant. As a new instructor with Sylvan, she looks forward to building confidence in our students by making learning FUN and encouraging a “Can Do Attitude”.
