Success Stories

Here is what our parents are saying about Sylvan!

I Learn A Lot of New Things at Sylvan!

""When Tara came to Sylvan, she was having problems with her fluency rate and her self esteem was low. I enrolled her in the program to help fill the gaps of her reading strategies and comprehension. It was the first year she would be taking the TAKS and she already doubted herself that she would pass. Sylvan in Frisco was able to pin point the skills she was lacking and brought her through fourth grade level in her reading skills. In this time, I witnessed more and more positive self-esteem that was nurtured by such caring individuals who knew she could succeed. Tara did a fantastic job on her TAKS test and even proved to herself that she really could accomplish the reading skills needed to be a great reader. This has given her an improved attitude towards reading. I am thankful that we were able to be part of this wonderful program.”

Sylvan Gives Me Brain Power!

"Braden and Lee enrolled at Sylvan at the beginning of summer. Braden enrolled in Sylvan’s math and writing programs, and his brother Lee enrolled in Sylvan’s reading and math programs. During their time here at Sylvan, they both showed tremendous academic growth, and they are now ready to conquer this next school year.

Their mom had this to say:

“My main concern with Lee was his reading. Shortly after we started, Lee came to me one morning with a chapter book. I was so happy and surprised that he wanted to read a chapter book. Everything he read before wasn’t expanding his imagination nor was it a challenge for him. I have confidence in Lee attending a higher student teacher ratio classroom in the fall.

My other son Braden has improved in his writing. His essays are more descriptive and organized. He has such a big imagination. I am looking forward to seeing that expressed through his writing in this upcoming school year.

In general, when approaching a math problem, my boys have much more confidence in their abilities to complete the problems.”

Braden and Lee had this to say about Sylvan in Frisco:

“I like being at Sylvan because we have nice teachers, we spend tokens and we have fun learning,” said Braden.

“What I like about Sylvan is when we do math and reading, it gives me brain power. I also like to get and spend my tokens,” said Lee.

It Makes Me Happy to Know Words!

"“When my daughter Nevaeh began kindergarten every day for her was a constant struggle, and she continued to struggle through 1st grade. I began to explore our options in improving her academics, and I found Sylvan in Frisco. When Nevaeh began classes at Sylvan, she tested at the lowest reading level. She has been attending for 10 weeks, and we have seen great improvement. We are so happy that reading has started to come so easy for her! We are looking forward to the upcoming school year. Thank you Sylvan and staff for all you have done for Nevaeh.”
– Nevaeh’s Mom, Veronica

Nevaeh has this to say about sylvan in Frisco:

“I like learning how to read. It makes me happy to know words. I also like to the Sylvan store because you can take the toys home with you.”

I FEEL SMART!

"“Christopher was constantly behind and playing catch-up in all subjects. He was getting frustrated, and it was showing in his attitude and behavior. He was also easily distracted at school. This not only affected his grades, but his whole outlook on life. It was hard as a parent to watch. His school tutoring wasn’t as affective as we would have liked, so we knew we needed to get him additional help.

Sylvan had a solid program that was backed with certified teachers, and it looked like the best program out there for students that were struggling. It was the most well-rounded program for students. Looking at the testimonials, it was obvious that students were not only improving in school but were also building their confidence and self-esteem.

Sylvan gives students an environment to flourish in all aspects, aptitude and attitude. I believe learning is both aspects and Sylvan was able to give him that. He was able to overcome a lot of challenges academically in a short amount of time. He came to me the other day and said “I really feel smart!” He has had a huge boost in his confidence. He has never felt smart, and now he feels it and shows it
.”

Christopher has this to say about Sylvan:

When I first came to Sylvan I was struggling in reading and math. After a few days, I was starting to improve and get better at everything. School will be so easy when I go back and do great!”

Restoring and Enhancing My Son’s Confidence!

"Nick first started Sylvan testing below grade level. He enrolled in our Academic Reading program, and after 8 weeks of instruction, he is now testing above grade level and ready to take on 4th grade!

Thank you Sylvan Learning Center of Frisco for restoring and enhancing the reading and comprehension skills of my son, Nick. He may now compete with others of his grade and age and will have an equal chance of achieving whatever his heart and mind have in store for him in the future. He now has self-confidence and Sylvan has played an important role in that success.”
– Nick’s Mom, Francella.

“I like reading and playing games. I like learning new things and working hard”

Perfect 100% in Math Benchmark!

"The summer leading into 2nd grade left Mom and Dad concerned about Ridge’s skill and confidence levels. While they did not feel he was far behind, they wanted Ridge to enter 2nd grade feeling well-prepared for math. Although his math skills were not posing a great challenge, they simply did not want their son to begin to struggle. Once we assessed Ridge’s math skills, we found a few skills gaps in his math foundation that posed a threat to his success in the 2nd grade. As he progressed in his customized program, Ridge was able to work through his skill gaps and move quickly toward his goal and in the process he gained confidence in his math abilities. Ridge has started second grade ahead of his peers in math. His teacher was proud when Ridge received a perfect score of 100 on his math benchmark!

Here is what mom and dad had to say about their experience with Sylvan:

“When we recognized that Ridge was beginning to struggle with math and saw how it was affecting his self-confidence, his mother and I knew we must take extra action to correct this. We knew of Sylvan's reputation for success so we enrolled Ridge over the summer for math tutoring and continue on with it today. His grades in math have jumped from C's to A's this school year and his self esteem is great. I would definitely recommend Sylvan in Frisco to any parent who sees their child having difficulty in school and can trust in Sylvan that they will see improvement.”

Growing By Leaps and Bounds!

"Mathew Mason made a deal with his dad at the beginning of summer. He wanted to get up to speed with his reading abilities, since he knew he was at a pivotal moment in his academic career as he was getting ready for college! His dad brought Mathew to Sylvan in Frisco. Through a detailed skills assessment we found out that not only did he need practice on his reading skills, he was actually two grade levels behind. He and his dad sat down and set a goal for Mathew to grow his reading level in order to be caught up to his current grade by the end of the summer. Over the course of the next few weeks Mathew not only gained the skills to be successful in his reading, but he was also gaining confidence in himself and his abilities. When it came time for him to take the progress assessment to measure Mathew’s academic growth in reading, he knocked it out of the park! He had improved not just to his current grade level, but TWO levels ahead! Mathew now has the skills to be prepared for his original goal and he is college-bound! His dad has seen a dramatic improvement and had this to say, "I am so thankful for the help Sylvan has provided my son! I am excited to see that Mathew has surpassed his expectations so soon. Thank you.""

Sylvan SAT College Prep Success!

"Below is a letter we received from Zachary's father Dennis:

"The Sylvan program is one of the most comprehensive and consuming SAT prep programs for college seeking high school students, which is why we choose it. We wanted the emersion for Zachary to see really what he would be able to do. With Sylvan’s benchmarking process, we were able to see Zachary go from a mid 1600 SAT performer to a 1980. Their process enforces what will be required when students take the SAT, and they are right. Zachary’s final Sylvan benchmark was only a 100 points shy of what he accomplished on the test, telling me, that what was taught, explained and enforced, was all the right information. We believe in the Sylvan process so much, we are now sending our daughter to the same SAT prep class, and we have one more after that! Sylvan in Frisco was easy to deal with and very flexible with their classes since high school schedules can be hectic. As of today, Zach was accepted to both Texas A&M and University of Texas. He elected to attend Texas A&M and was one of only 325 Freshman to be accepted into the Aeronautical Engineering program. He was also accepted into the Engineering Honors program at A&M"

A New Focus on Learning to Read and do Math!

"When a student is diagnosed with ADHD, they have to work harder to focus and keep up in school than the typical student. Grace had to find a way to overcome her extra struggles in reading and math along with all of the other usual school related pressures. Her struggle began to snowball after she failed the math TAKS. Grace’s confidence and academic success needed to be elevated. After a couple of months in both of Sylvan’s reading and math programs, Grace is testing above grade level! At Sylvan in Frisco, Grace has learned to use her ADHD to her advantage by focusing on her preferred learning style.

Grace’s mom had this to say about her Sylvan experience:

“During homework time, Grace would ask me why she couldn’t understand her math and reading work. My goal was for Grace to realize that she was having trouble and that we needed help. We compared Sylvan with another learning center, and after the initial assessment, Grace fell in love with Sylvan. Gracie has loved all of her teachers. Since our enrollment, we’ve been very pleased with the outcome! Her confidence has improved and she’s once again exciting about learning. I have also been impressed with how well the directors work with us as parents and with her school teacher. Everyone’s genuine care for Gracie's improvement and the flexibility of hours was amazing. It is such a joy and relief to see your child who was struggling, and now see happiness in her eyes and a renewed confidence. THANK YOU ALL!!”"

Dyslexia Will Not Hold Me Back!

"Since Laurel was diagnosed with Dyslexia, reading has always been a struggle for her. Laurel has always had a positive attitude towards reading, but it is more of a challenge for her and has caused her to struggle in school. After trying school-sponsored tutoring with only limited success, Laurel and her family decided to explore other options. The Sylvan guarantee of a full grade level improvement sparked their interest. After 36 hours of instruction in the academic reading program, Laurel tested one full grade level higher just in time for the start of a new school year!

Laurel’s Dad had this to say about their Sylvan experience, “Laurel has enjoyed learning with the assistance of the Sylvan staff in Frisco. She attended Sylvan three days a week during her summer break and never complained. The staff made learning so much fun for her. The success she attained during her initial 36 hours of instruction encouraged us so much that we have enrolled her for an additional 36 hours of instruction.”"

Benefits of Getting Ahead!

"Isabella’s parents wanted her to enroll at the Sylvan in Frisco so that she could catch up and get ahead of the other students in her upcoming kindergarten class. In her short visit with us this summer, Isabella not only mastered her kindergarten skills, she has actually started working on 1st grade skills! Isabella continues to amaze her teachers with her academic potential. Her confidence continues to grow each and every day she attends Sylvan.

Her parents had this to say about her Sylvan experience:

“The teachers at Sylvan have made learning fun for Isabella. She really enjoys coming not only for the benefits of getting ahead, but also because she is gaining confidence in her academic abilities. The tokens were such a great way to motivate Isabella. She couldn’t wait to show us her prizes each day!”"

My Journey

"Summertime was the beginning of Kayla’s journey at Sylvan. Her main focus was to catch up and get ahead in reading in math. With Kayla’s hard work, it wasn’t long until her reading comprehension skills were up and she was scoring above grade level! Over the last month, Kayla has directed all her hard work in raising her math grades as high as her reading grades. This past week, we found out Kayla went from at risk in math to scoring a 92 on her math TAKS benchmark! Kayla couldn’t be more proud and confident in herself and her academic potential!

“She recently received her progress report and she received an 88 in Math. Her last report card she got a 77 in Math. She is doing great. I am very pleased with Kayla and Sylvan” says Kayla’s Mom"

We cannot thank Sylvan enough

"Struggling in reading, math and writing, Austin came to Sylvan of Frisco as a means to help get him caught up and working on grade level. Austin set the course with Sylvan by immediately mastering skills in his reading and math program. It wasn’t long till his teachers in school began to notice an increase in Austin’s reading ability! Recently, Austin’s main goal was to get ahead in his math courses at school. With an intensive study in his math program, Austin is now excelling in school and is receiving high grades in math!
Here’s what Austin’s parents have to say,
“Since Austin started attending Sylvan in Frisco, both his dad and I have seen a huge difference in his school work. Austin used to hate going to school because he struggled so much in reading and math. Austin has started to excel in reading. He was at a 2nd grade leave when we came to Sylvan. He is now on pace with his 6th grade class and we are very proud of Austin. Both his dad and I are very happy with his accomplishments over last eight months. We can't thank all of his teachers at Sylvan enough on how much they have helped Austin.”"

Teacher Sees Progress in Rily at School

"Fluency and decoding was a struggle for Rily when he first came to Sylvan of Frisco in July. He came to us three times a week for two-hour sessions and has made major improvements! His teachers at school cannot believe how fluently he reads and with so much confidence. “This is not the same student I saw back in May”, says one of his school teachers.

Rily’s mom is more than thrilled that he has made so much improvement. “Sylvan has not just helped Rily improve in his reading, but they brought up his confidence to where now he is raising his hand in class to read. We thought he would never get there. His teachers are as impressed as much as we are. Thanks, to the team at Sylvan in Frisco!""

Tremendous Progress

"Miguel’s parents came to the Sylvan of Frisco because his school teachers feared he may have to repeat the first grade due to skill gaps in his reading and math. Miguel attended Sylvan three times a week for two-hour sessions. He worked so hard! After three months, his teachers at school were impressed with his leap in skills and decided to advance him to the second grade. Miguel has since returned to Sylvan to get ahead of his other classmates. His Sylvan teachers are ecstatic about his return!

Miguel’s mom had this to say about his progress at Sylvan, “My son has improved tremendously in his academics because of Sylvan!”"

We Could Not Be Happier

"Sydney first came to us back in November as a pre-kindergartener struggling with her fine motor skills and speech. By coming to Sylvan, she not only improved in these areas, but her confidence has grown significantly. Sydney is more independent, ambitious, and happy. She has a new love for school, and is eager to learn.

Sydney’s mom had this to say about the Sylvan of Frisco, “It has been a pure delight working with you and everyone at Sylvan. All of Sydney's tutors have treated her so kind and made her feel confident! We couldn't be happier from the outcome!”"

Success with Fractions!

"Fifth grade math had become Marlena’s most feared subject. Fractions gave her such a hard time. Her attitude towards her math class began to deteriorate causing her overall outlook on academics to diminish. Passing to the 6th grade was a concern for both Marlena and her parents. Therefore, they turned to the Sylvan in Frisco as a means to get Marlena the help and support she needed. Week by week, not only did her attitude improve, but fractions no longer left her feeling in pieces. We are happy to report that Marlena was promoted to the 6th grade by her principal for her efforts at Sylvan!

Marlena had this to say, "Fractions left me feeling in pieces. Now I know how to do them."

Marlena's father George said, "We have been impressed by the quality and professionalism of the staff. Marlena has more than once commented she would rather go to Sylvan than her regular school. We have received many good reports from her teachers about her improvement, and will continue to reach out to Sylvan for all of our daughter’s needs. Thank you so much for your support and especially your flexibility.""

- George Masek, Marlena's Father

"A" Student

"DJ’s mom was concerned because her son was struggling severely in math. DJ came to the Sylvan of Frisco twice a week for two hour sessions for assistance with his math. In a short time period, DJ was flourishing in his math program and has been doing considerably better in his math classes.

DJ’s mom says: “Thank you for helping my son, DJ. He went from a struggling "C" student to an "A" student. Mr. Glen was really great with my son. He really connected with him, and DJ looked forward to seeing him each week.”"

Life Changing Experience

"Victoria enrolled in Sylvan’s Beginning Reading program to help build her phonics. Once she started her instruction, it didn’t take long for Victoria to grasp her new skills and begin applying them in the classroom. In school, she is doing better not only in reading, but all her other academic classes as well. At Sylvan, her teachers have noticed a dramatic increase in her self esteem and confidence in her own reading abilities. Her father has noticed a significant difference in how she reads and decodes words.

Her dad recently had this to say, “This has been a life changing experience that will stay with Victoria for the rest of her life.”"

Sylvan Works!

"Charles first came to Sylvan in February 2009. As a first grader, he was discouraged and upset with his lack of understanding in math. Due to his lack of confidence and skill gaps, Charles’s mom and dad were concerned he would have to repeat the first grade. Charles has come consistently each week and has made huge progress! He is starting the 2nd grade ahead of the other students with more confidence than ever! “This is our second student that has come to Sylvan. Because Sylvan had helped my step son, I knew that it would work for Charles! I am very happy with my son’s progress, and I feel that this was worth the investment,” says Charles’s parent."

Improved Three Grade Levels

"Mark decided to attend Sylvan in hopes of attaining a better level of comprehension while he reads, as well as a more professional style of writing. In only three months, Mark has raised his comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary skills by three full grade levels. His writing has also become remarkably better, and others outside Sylvan, including his co-workers, have begun to take notice of his progress. His amazing work ethic and desire to succeed makes him stand among the best that have come to Sylvan."

The Right Choice!

"The concern for passing the TAKS test brought Emily and Katie to Sylvan. Emily desperately wanted to enter 6th grade on time. Emily has been placed in an AP Math class this year as a result of her commended TAKS scores! Her sister Katie wanted to get ahead of her other classmates in math. Upon completion of her program, as a 2nd grader, Katie was testing at a 3rd grade level! Now, Emily and Katie have come back and are continuing to expand their math skills!

Emily and Katie's mom had this to say about her Sylvan experience: “At first, I had my doubts that Sylvan would be able to get my girls up an entire grade level in 36 hours of instruction. As time went on, not only did their math grades improve, I also received positive feedback from their teachers at school. When they were re-tested, I was pleasantly surprised that my girls scored a couple grade levels higher! Therefore, my husband and I have made the decision to come back to Sylvan this year to continue to help my girls be successful in math.”"

From Tears to Smiles

"Jadelyn is a 5th grader who has been attending Sylvan of Frisco for three months! In that short time, Jadelyn’s confidence and ability have improved significantly and so has here ability to read independently! Her teachers at school have been very excited about the new Jadelyn that has emerged, and they are very confident that she will be able to pass her TAKS test the first time!
Jadelyn recently told her mom, “Mom, I’ve got this now! Sylvan has really helped me.” Her tears have turned into smiles, and the confidence that shines from Jadelyn shows how confident she is not only in herself but also in her abilities!
Jadelyn’s parents have this to say about their experience with the Sylvan Learning Center in Frisco, “When we first mentioned using Sylvan to the school staff, no one would reply. There was dead silence. We went forward with Sylvan anyway, and we absolutely love it. We feel that it was the best decision that we could have ever made! For any parents who have any doubts, please know that Sylvan will go above and beyond to help their children reach their academic goals. All the teachers are qualified! They have patience, and they are about the well-being of the student. They truly love their job. I wish we would have known about Sylvan years ago” – Darrell and Tracy"
