Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Kingwood Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Kingwood staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. Kingwood Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Tashia Smith
Center Director
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Tashia is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Before relocating to Texas she served as an Area Program Supervisor for academic, enrichment and recreation programs for Los Angeles Unified School District. In her free time enjoys all facets of the performing arts, and loves to read. At Sylvan, she loves to see children realize their full potential. She is a Sylvan Certified Math Teacher.
Rachel Knippa
Director of Education
Rachel is a graduate of Concordia University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Christian Education. She is also certified to teach Generalist EC-6th and 4-8. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, going shopping and listening to music. At Sylvan, she enjoys teaching in the small group setting.

Cody Boone
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Cody is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology Education. He is also certified to teach PE EC-12 and Generalsit 4-8. In his free time, Cody enjoys coaching sports, working with youth at church and reading. At Sylvan, he enjoys having the ability to give personal attention to each child.

Julia Scull
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Julia is a graduate of North Carolina State where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Biochemistry and Duke University where she has completed graduate work in Molecular Genetics. She is also certified to teach Composite Science 8-12. In her free time, Julia enjoys traveling, scuba diving and training for a half marathon.

Cheryl Holmes
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Cheryl is a graduate of Smith College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Latin American Studies. In her free time, Cheryl enjoys singing in a choir, studying environmental economics and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students reach their goals of success.

Kymia Dozier-Kessee
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Kymia is a graduate of Texas Southern University where she earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting and Walden University where she earned her MBA. In her free time, Kymia enjoys painting. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping the students.

Patrick LaTouche
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Patrick is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He is also certified to teach Math, Technology Applications and Special Education. In his free time, Patrick enjoys attending church, playing golf and family activities. At Sylvan, he enjoys the individual attention given the students.

James Vo
Certified Mathematics Instructor
James is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where he earned a Bachelor of Scinece in Kinesiology with a Mathematics minor. James also earned an Associates degree in Mathematics and Science from Kingwood College. In addition to this, he is certified to teach Mathematics 8-12. In his free time, James enjoys playing tennis and spending time with friends. At Sylvan, he enjoys helping students learn and understand math concepts.
James is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Advanced Math, SAT/ACT Math, Trig, Calculus (all levels), Statistics, Geometry, Algebra I and II and Study Skills.
John Maxwell
Certified Mathematics Instructor
John is a graduate of Baylor University where he earned a Bachelors of Art in Entrepreneurship and Economics. He is also a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. In his free time, John enjoys learning, mentoring and working in the public health field. At Sylvan, he enjoys the integral part that Sylvan plays in the educational development of many students.
Tiffany James
Certified Instructor
Tiffany is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sam Houston State University where she earned a Masters of Education in Counseling. She is also certified to teach Generalist EC-6, Special Education PK-12th and School Counseling. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys cooking, meeting with friends and school. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students feel successful.

Misti Morrison

Misti is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters in Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist and 4-8 Math. In her free time, Misti enjoys swimming and fishing. At Sylvan, she enjoys the individualized programs and having the ability to work with students one on on.

Amy Landrith

Amy is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Masters of Education in Special Education. She is also certified to teach Special Education EC-12, Educational Diagnostician and Principal. In her free time, Amy enjoys playing piano, grant writing and running. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with students to help them improve their academic skills.

DeMonica Jefferson

DeMonica is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned degrees in Business and Education Administration. She also holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist. In her free time, DeMonica enjoys reading and being with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys teaching students to become successful, productive and crictical thinkers.

Sheila Reid

Sheila is a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada where she earned a Bachelors degree in Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology with Early Childhood. She also attended the University of Ottawa where she earned a Bachelors of Education. In her free time, Sheila enjoys running, crafts, reading and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with students.

Lynette Anderson

Lynette is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is also certified to teach Elementary Reading grades 1-8 and Elementary Self Contained grades 1-8. In her free time, Lynette enjoys family outings, scrapbooking and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping the students in small groups.

Dan Steger

Dan is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences Composite. He is also certified to teach Secondary grades 6-12 with Social Studies and Spanish Endorsements. In his free time, Dan enjoys the culinary arts, spending time with family and traveling. At Sylvan, he enjoys the personalized instruction that is specific for each students needs.

Lauren Loeb

Lauren is a graduate of Louisiana State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in German. She is also certified to teach EC-6th Generalist. In her free time, Lauren enjoys outdoor sports, coaching swimming and gardening.

Nancy is a graduate of Stephen F Austin University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She is also certified to teach Early Childhood PK-6th, Elementary Education 1-8, Elementary Reading 1-8 and Elementary Art 1-8. In her free time, Nancy enjoys cooking, reading and working out. She enjoys the flexibility that Sylvan offers.

Nicole Hellmers

Nicole is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts (English Literature). She is also certified to teach Generalist EC-6th. In her free time, Nicole enjoys rock climbing, camping and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys the individualized attention that each student receives which guides them to better understanding.

Dionne Immel
Lead Teacher Assistant and Test Administrator
Dionne was born and raised in Louisiana. She enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children, and she also loves to play tennis.
