Commended Performance

"Jessica was placed in speech at age two and has always had trouble focusing and learning. She came to Sylvan of Kingwood disappointed and with little confidence. Her mom was very concerned because she had not passed the TAKS test. Jessica has made tremendous progress in reading and math. Her self confidence is soaring and she has made many new friends. Math Tutoring Help Me Get Into Grad School!

"Sylvan in Kingwood has been a great educational experience for me. I enrolled because I needed help refreshing my math skills and I had heard nothing but great reviews about this center. My instructor, Carl, introduced various ways of examining math questions and showed me different techniques for solving them. I am a college graduate and Sylvan has helped me tremendously with my preparation to enter graduate school."

Grade Level Ready!

"Ashton came to Sylvan of Kingwood needing help in reading, as he did not meet the requirements to promote to 2nd grade by the end of the school year. His mother enrolled him to help prepare for an assessment he would have to take at the end of summer to determine promotion to 2nd grade. She decided against the summer program at school and took a chance on Sylvan. As we got closer to the test date we increased frequency. With one week before school starting, he took the test and was determined ready for the 2nd grade! She has enrolled in another program to maintain his growth during the new school year.

Mrs. Seber and her mother walked into this Kingwood learning center sure about what they wanted. The priority was for Madison to gain more confidence and be prepared for school. Madison came to us a shy little girl, however she sure loved her tokens and the store. Her confidence now enters the room before she does and she is ready to take on whatever comes her way. She is no longer intimidated by pages in books that seem to have “too many words.” Madison is also conquering 2-digit subtraction. We are very excited at the progress Madison has made; she will take First Grade by storm!"

Success in Homework and on the TAKS Test

"Below is an email from one of our parents about her experience at the Sylvan in Kingwood:

"I would like to take this time to commend the teachers at Sylvan for the outstanding job that they have done with Morgan in both reading and math. When Morgan started in April she was not where she needed to be in the 5th grade.  Morgan was behind schedule. Math and reading homework were such a struggle for Morgan. She would procrastinate every night and I did not look forward to homework at night with her. After the first couple of weeks at Sylvan, Morgan began to come home and do her homework with no struggles and I began to see a transformation in her. Morgan began to say, "Mom, I can do this on my own." She began to develop what I call the three C's -Comprehension, Confidence and Clarity; the making of a diamond in the rough.

Also Morgan had taken the TAKS test before starting Sylvan and did not pass the math or the reading. Within three weeks of starting at Sylvan, she passed the math TAKS and was almost rated as commended with her performance on the reading portion of the test.
The teachers at Sylvan have been such a blessing to Morgan. She now has the three C's that she needs to go forward into the 6th grade and much more. So Thank You teachers for an outstanding job and God bless each one of you

"My friend Lauren told me about Sylvan Learning Center. The first time I visited Sylvan everyone was very nice. My mom and I made an appointment with Tiambe’, the Center Director. We discussed a plan for earning my high school diploma. The following week the Sylvan teachers, directors and I developed a plan for success. Dreams do Come True!

"My name is Cathy Weaver and I am 51 years of age. I have always wanted to be a nurse. I got married at a young age and had 2 children. When my children graduated from High School, I decided to return to school and get a nursing degree. The only problem was I had been out of school a long time and had forgotten most of my math skills.

One evening, I saw a commercial on TV advertising Sylvan Learning Center. I called not knowing if they accepted adult students. As it turns out - they did. Within a week I started!

Since the first day, I have been very happy with the teachers and Directors. I have re-learned the math skills I need and I now have the confidence to take the THEA and start my nursing career.

Academic Reading Success Story

"I want to tell you about Matthew, a young man I met this summer when he was a rising 6th grader. Matthew came to our center with a history of poor grades (making 60's and 70's in spelling and language arts) and low reading comprehension. According to his mother, he was only borderline passing every year, and the reason he was promoted each year was because of his size. Homework was very difficult because he didn't "get it." Matthew also had a bad attitude.
We tested Matthew and found that he was reading at a 2nd grade level. Matthew enrolled in Academic Reading in June, and he averaged 10 hours a week of class. Once school started, Matthew's schedule became tight, so he moved to Sylvan online.
By August, Matthew's reading was 5.2. He he had grown almost 3 grade levels in just 2 months!
Today, Matthew's mother stopped by to give me some exciting news. On his report card Matthew had 2 A's and 5 B's! She said he is very happy with himself, and his whole attitude has changed for the better. She also mentioned that sometimes she gets home after 6:00 (which is when Matthew has his SOAR class), and he'll say to her, "Shhh... I'm doing my Sylvan!"
