Candice is a certified teacher who earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from WWU. Candice has two grown daughters and two young children in the elementary grades. She understands that sometimes parents need help to provide enrichment or fill in the gaps in their children’s education. Candice is passionate about assisting children in developing a joy of learning that will last them a lifetime.
Sylvan gave me the chance to continue my joy for teaching and working with children. It is a wonderful sight to watch our students learn, grow, and be confident readers, writers, and mathematicians. I have witnessed education from the perspective of a teacher and an administrator. With over 36 years of experience, I have learned that everyone is capable of learning to read, write, and do math. Each of us grows at a different pace, yet all of us can succeed.
I grew up in Tacoma, Washington and as a child was involved in baseball, theatre and Boy Scouts. I attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a Theatre Minor. I then attended the Master’s of Teaching Program at UPS, graduating in 2004. Next, I taught English, History, Civics and Speaking Skills at Gig Harbor High School, where I was also the Assistant Debate Coach. I then moved to Seattle and have been working for Sylvan since December of 2005, first as a teacher, then Director of Education, and now Center Director. I’m an avid sports fan and writer, and often combine these interests by contributing freelance articles for local magazines, as well as for ESPN. I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, and exploring the greater Seattle area in search of adventurous activities, both indoor and outdoor. I also love playing sports such as golf and basketball for fun, but am much better at talking about them than actually playing. My favorite part about working for Sylvan is seeing the students’ confidence grow as they experience success.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (emphasis in mathematics) from Texas A & M. She is certified to teach self-contained elementary classrooms and elementary math. Before coming to Sylvan, she spent two years as an assistant editor at an academic publishing house and eight years as a museum educator. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys reading, writing, and designing jewelry.
