Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Pearland Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Pearland staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Pearland Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Leah Cooley
Center Director and Certified Mathematics Instructor
Leah graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 1995. She received a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in English. She received her teaching certification and taught Language Arts prior to joining the Sylvan team. She has been with Sylvan of Pearland since 2006. She began as an instructor at the Pearland Center and a few months later became the Director of Education and now is our Center Director. The thing Leah likes most about working at Sylvan is having the opportunity to help students and work with their families.
Lindsey Rackley
Director of Education
Lindsey is a graduate of East Carolina University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Health Certificate. She holds teaching certificates in Health grades K-12 and Physical Education grades K-12. In her free time, Lindsey enjoys exercising, watching sports and traveling. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing the students succeed.

Brenda Martinez
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Brenda is a graduate of Tufts University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. In her free time, Brenda enjoys shopping, taking her dog for walks and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys utilizing her skills in math to help students.
Brenda is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Advanced Math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trig, Physics and Homework Support.
Julie Vela
Ceritified Mathematics Instructor
Julie is a graduate of Texas State University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Dance Education. She is also certified to teach General Education grades K-4th and 4th-8th, ELA and Reading 8-12 and Dance 6-12th. In her free time, Julie enjoys tutoring students. At Sylvan, she enjoys the one on one interaction with the students.

Lura Flott
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Lura is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. She also holds an Alternative Teaching Certification. In her free time, Lura enjoys art, playing the clarinet and her church choir.

Sharon D'Orsie
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Sharon is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a Masters of Science in Water Supply and Pollution and a Doctor of Sciene in Environmental Health. She holds a Masters of Education for Secondary grades, Mathematics grades 8-12 and Physical Science 8-12. In her free time, Sharon enjoys reading, cooking and traveling. At Sylvan, she enjoys creating a new generation of America's scientists and engineers.

Jamie Ford

Jaime is a graduate of Texas Tech University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is also certified to teach Special Education EC-12 and Generalist 4-8. In her free time, Jaime enjoys reading, family and coaching cheerleading. At Sylvan, she enjoys being able to help students.

Kristin Theriot

Kristin is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an Elementary Education minor. She is also certified to teach EC-6th Generalist and ESL. In her free time, Kristin enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching sports and arts/crafts projects. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing the students succeed and become confident in their academic abilities.

Vanessa Feldschau

Vanessa is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Educaion and the University of Houston where she earned a Masters in Education. She is also certified to teach Reading 1-6 and Math 1-8. In her free time, Vanessa enjoys spending time with family and friends. At Sylvan, she enjoys touching the future through teaching.

Michelle Gilliand

Michelle is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Business Bachelors of Arts in Finance and the University of Phoenix where she earned her MBA. She is also certified to teach Business Education 6-12. In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading, ongoing learning and interior design. At Sylvan, she enjoys providing support and encouragement to individuals.

Linda Long

Linda is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a Bachelor and Master of Science in Education. She also has a Texas teaching certificate and is a Sylvan Certified Mathematics Instructor. In her free time, Linda enjoys church activities and women's groups. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing the students thinking.

Tonya Lee

Tonya is a graduate of Prairie View A&M where she received a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Science and Master of Arts in Counseling. She is also certified to teach Elementary Self Contained PK-6th and Generic Special Education PK-12th. In her free time, Tonya enjoys reading and relaxing. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing the progress of the students.

Angi Watkins
Certified Instructor
Angi is a graduate of Stephen F Austin University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She has also attended the University of Houston at Clear Lake where she earned a Masters of Counseling. Angi is certified to teach Generalist grades 4-8. In her free time, Angi enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. At Sylvan, she enjoys making a difference in our students lives.

LaChante Guidry

LaChante is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned both a Bachelor and Masters of Arts in Education. She is also certified to teach grades 1-8. In her free time, LaChante enjoys reading, skating and guitar. At Sylvan, she enjoys the students, teachers and the flexibility.

Paulette Westbrook
Certified Instructor
Paulette is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She has also attended Texas Southern University where she earned a Masters in Education . Paulette is also certified to teach English, French, Reading and EC -4th. In her free time, Paulette enjoys singing and playing handbells. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing students “light up” because they understand or have accomplished something new.

Pat Sneed
Test Administrator
Pat joined the Sylvan family in 2006 as a teacher and test administrator. She graduated with a BA and Master's degree in Elementary Education from East Texas State University. Pat is a hands-on grandmother and adores her three granddaughters. In her spare time, she cross-stitches and quilts.
Mary Gangavarapu

Mary is a graduate of St. Ann's College of Education where she earned a Bachelors degree in Education. In her free time, Mary enjoys taking care of her family. At Sylvan, she enjoys giving personal attention to each student and helping them succeed at their own pace.

Diana Dickey

Diana is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She is also certified to teach EC-8th Generalist. In her free time, Diana enjoys children, sports and plays. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing the students progress.

Yolanda Gray

She also holds a Generic Education certificate. In her free time, Yolanda enjoys spending time with family and reading novels. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students strengthen their skills so they will become life long learners.

Mackwell Hickerson

Mackwell is a graduate of Concordia University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Texas Southern Univeristy where he earned a Master of Education Administration. He is also certified to teach Secondary English 6-12 and Standard Principal EC-12. In his free time, Mackwell enjoys fitness, sports and movies. At Sylvan, he enjoys playing an important role in student educational development.

Natalie Giddens

Natalie is a graduate of Wiley College where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Walden University where she earned a Masters of Science in Elemenatry Reading and Literacy. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education 1-8, Early Childhood PK-K and ESL 1-8. In her free time, Natalie enjoys reading and journal writing. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with the students.
