"Through the work of your teachers and staff, my son has learned how to learn. Sylvan always treated him with respect and helped him find a way out of failure - an important lesson for all of us to learn. He worked hard and gained the confidence that he could indeed succeed in school. Thank you, Sylvan Learning! You have made all the difference."

Happy Peoria Mom

"We previously tried Kuman and a private tutor, but neither were successful in the same way you have been at Sylvan. He was bored at Kumon doing repetitive worksheets and hated to go. The daily work was a fight as it started below his level. We did not even make it a month before we dropped out.

Using the private tutor was fine, but I did not see any gains in three months of weekly tutoring.

I like that each session has a focus on word problems because I feel that is the most important concept of math rather than the rote memory of math facts. My son loves to come to Sylvan and leaves happy. His math grades started to improve immediately after he started and he brought his math grade up one letter grade during the quarter (from a C- to a B-). While I know many parents would not be happy with a B-, we are thrilled at one letter grade improvement in less than one month. His math papers were C, D and F before Sylvan and A and A- after we started - I can show you the evidence in the Power School grade book. It took a lot of As to bring the grade up one letter! His confidence is up in math already and the teacher commented several times already with a Sunday night email that said "Andrew is doing the best that he has all year. I rarely, if ever, have to redirect his focus. He is happy, participating nicely, friendly and doing good work on top of it all. He is not taking undue time in any of his work either."

I know Sylvan is not inexpensive (especially when we are already paying for a private school), but our child's education is one of the most important legacy that we leave for them. The confidence gained now at 2nd/3rd grade math will positively impact his future academic career.

Happy Sylvan parent!

Peoria Parent Says Sylvan Very Helpful!

"The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable. I have heard very positive remarks in the community about the Sylvan program. I am glad that we picked Sylvan to help our daughter"

Sylvan to the Rescue!!

"We started at Sylvan during the 3rd quarter when we got the dreaded D/F notification in the mail (it was actually a C- at that point, but the teacher said it was going down fast). We came in for evaluations and started the next week. Gus ended the 3rd quarter with a B and now has an A in Math as we finish the school year strong.

Whenever he sees the Sylvan commericals on TV, he talks about his Sylvan experience and says the teachers are very encouraging and give him a lot of praise (which has increased his confidence). The summer commerical has made a big impression on him as he was concerned about summer slide himself and wondered if we were going to keep coming to Sylvan for the summer - now that is an endorsement! (I think Gus is concerned that the math equalizations will really come out his ears after he goes swimming!)

Parents - if you are reading this and uncertain if it is the right move, trust me, it has been a great move for our son. As early as Kindergarten he would tell us "I do not read as well as X or Y never misses anything on his math papers". It was discouraging to hear that in K, 1st and 2nd grade. I only wish we would have started earlier as his lack of confidence resulted in him being the class clown, which started a bad cycle. Less than 24 hours into the program and we already see great improvement.

Thanks!

Kari"

Sylvan Very Responsive!

"I tried to find a tutor in the middle of the semester and heard "no room" from many people. When I called Sylvan after hours I got a call back within a couple of hours of opening the next day with many time options offered. The tutor is very knowledgeable and has been very helpful. My son has learned a lot in a short time."
