Roger is a former classroom teacher with experience in grades K-8. Following his teaching career, Roger received a master's degree in clinical psychology and worked in private practice as a marriage, family and child counselor specializing in families and school related problems. He opened the Cupertino Sylvan Learning Center in 1993, the Center in San Jose in 1994 and the Mt. View Center in 2000.
Pete started with Sylvan in 2005 and has worn many hats. He previously worked in public education for 5 years as a classroom teacher serving in many leadership roles like: Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator, technology support, and union representation. Furthermore, he worked in the technology industry. Pete’s skills with writing, editing and web design were used by corporations like Sony, Gateway Computers, and PeopleSoft. Finally, Pete loves film and also enjoys hiking.
Carrie received her Bachelor of Science degree from UC Davis. She also has a Multi-Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University. Carrie is currently working towards her Master's Degree and has been with Sylvan Cupertino since December 2004. Carrie's kind and patient personality make her a valuable asset to our center.
Elaine graduated from Youngstown State University with a theater degree. With a single subject teaching credential, Elaine has taught high school English for several years. She also taught middle school drama and language arts in a program for gifted children. Currently, Elaine writes book reviews for myshelf.com. Her remarkable intelligence, extensive experience in education, and endearing personality make Elaine crucial to the success of our center.
Tasnine started with Sylvan in the Ace It program on Valentine's Day 2011. In the spring, she began working at the San Jose Center as a Tutor, and by the end of the summer she had transitioned into her current position as Administrative Assistant. Tasnine received her undergraduate degree from UCLA. Later she returned to the San Jose area, where she was born and raised, to work in a variety of teaching positions with children of all ages from grades K to 12. When she is not working, you are likely to find her striking a Yoga pose at a studio near you.
The exceptional teaching staff at the South San Jose Sylvan Learning Center have a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. Combined, we have over 50 years of Sylvan experience and at least that many years in the classroom. Our degrees range from Bachelor's to Master's in subjects like: education, mathematics, astronomy, spanish and poetry. We went to schools like University of Illinois, University of New Mexico, Fordham University, U.C. Berkeley, Texas A&M, Cal State Los Angeles, San Jose State University, CSU Fullerton, and Western Illinois University. Beyond Sylvan, our diverse experience is in classroom instruction, engineering, accounting, school administration, retail management, and realty.
