Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
I have been with Sylvan for 9 years and have worked at centres across Canada, as a teacher and director, before finally settling down here in Edmonton.
After finishing english and education degrees at University, I taught english in Taiwan for six months before returning to Canada and starting at Sylvan.
Sylvan, for me, is about helping children succeed, in the classroom and in life. I have watched hundreds of students learn and gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Always learning, building on skills, and moving forward with positive outlooks are keys to success. Teaching is a rewarding career. I have spent sixteen years teaching in the classroom, all at the lower elementary level. After taking leave to spend more time with my family, it wasn't long before I realized that I missed the students. Taking my skills in a different approach, I decided to look into the Sylvan program. At this point I have been with Sylvan for a number of years. The opportunity to work in all areas of the program, with all age groups and all types of personalities, is a growth in my area as an educator.
Teaching, for some, is simply a job. For me, however, it is a chance to positively impact the budding minds of tomorrow. Sylvan is an opportunity to take the minds of my students to the next level, and I enjoy every moment of it. I can appreciate the academic struggles and concerns of my students, but Sylvan is about more than just school: it is about learning skills that will help the students excel in life.
I have had the pleasure of being a Sylvan teacher in Edmonton for since October 2009.
I am a French Immersion teacher with 13 years of classroom experience. I hold a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Post Baccalaureate (PBDE) in Educational Leadership and Administration, both obtained at the University of Manitoba. I am currently working to finish my Masters (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Simon Fraser University, while also working as the French specialist in a Montessori Preschool. I believe learning is a lifelong journey and enjoy supporting and challenging my students to achieve their highest potential.
I have lived in BC all my life and received my teaching degree from the University of British Columbia. I started my teaching career with Sylvan in Vancouver in the fall of 2008. After getting married, I moved to Edmonton and decided to look for employment with Sylvan again. Teaching at Sylvan is fantastic. The personal and one-on-one care that is given to students during their sessions is a great way to ensure the students' learning, and to help keep their motivation levels high. Helping students gain confidence not only in their school work but also in themselves is a wonderful experience to be a part of every day.
I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education in the elementary route with a minor in Social Studies. Upon completion, I had the opportunity to teach for five years at both grade one and grade four levels. I have been able to adapt all the strategies and routines I implemented in a school environment and transition them to the one-on-one interaction I have with my students at Sylvan. I feel it is very important to try to understand each individual and create a bond so he or she is comfortable with the instructor, which ultimately works to everyone’s benefit. Within a cooperative environment, teachers can be instrumental in helping students achieve their goals. The most rewarding part of working at Sylvan Learning Centre is the personal and academic growth I have seen. I have enjoyed seeing students develop their confidence and abilities to conquer any challenges they encounter.
