Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Waco Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Waco staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Waco Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Rachel Landry
Center Director
Certified Mathematics Instructor 
Rachel is a graduate of Angelo State University where she earned a Bachelors degree in Theatre/ Communications and minor in Vocal Performance. She joined the Sylvan team this last year after teaching Speech Communications at the high school level. She is also a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. In her free time, Rachel enjoys acting in community theatre productions, singing and cooking. Laughter is her favorite sound. At Sylvan, Rachel enjoys making each student’s experience a unique one
Andrew Carnes
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Andrew is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics. In his free time, Andrew enjoys programming, animals and learning. At Sylvan, he enjoys problem solving with the students.
Andrew is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Advanced Math, SAT/ACT, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trig and Physics.
William Stutz
Certified Mathematics Instructor
William is currently attending Baylor University where he is working towards a Bachelors Business Administration in Accounting and his Masters. He is also a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. In his free time, he enjoys working at his church’s daycare and public accounting. At Sylvan, William enjoys teaching students all levels of math.
William is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, Study Skills, Homework Support, Advanced Math, SAT/ACT, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Calculus, Trig and Basic Skills Review.
Chrissy Coleman
Certified Instructor
Chrissy is a graduate of Texas State University where she earned a Bachelor of Scienc in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist. In her free time, Chrissy enjoys working at American Eagle Outfitters, reading and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys making a difference in children's lives and making learning a fun exciting experience.
Chrissy is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing and Handwriting Without Tears.
Shannon Anderson
Certified Instructor
Shannon is a graduate of Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Art in History. She is also certified to teach Social Studies 8-12. In her free time, Shannon enjoys teaching and traveling. At Sylvan, she enjoys working closely with students.
Shannon is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, Math Essentials, Study Skills and SAT/ACT Verbal.
Janice Smith
Certified Instructor
Janice Smith has been an Instructor at the Waco Sylvan for the past 6 years, where she very much enjoys working with the staff and students. Janice earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in reading from Texas A&M Corpus Christie. After completing her education, Janice taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades for 17 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Corpus. For the final 7 of those years she was the Assistant Principal.
Janice is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs:
Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing and Study Skills.
Karen Passmore
Certified Instructor
Karen is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She also holds teaching certifications in Elementary Education, Special Education K-12, Reading/Language Arts, Social Studies 4-8 and a Mental Retardation endorsement. In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, friends and church. At Sylvan, she enjoys watching students succeed.

Alison Ditto
Certified Instructor
Allison has been a member of the Waco Sylvan team since March 2007. She attended Baylor University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Education, she holds a teaching certificate for grades 1-8. Allison enjoys working at Sylvan because of the wide ranges of ages and learning levels.

David Guel
Certified Instructor
David has been a member of the Sylvan Learning Center of Waco since April of 2008. He attended Baylor University where he received a degree in History. He holds teaching certificates in Secondary History 6-12, Social Studies Composite 8-12 and Special Education EC-12. David enjoys interacting with the students and helping them succeed.
David is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, Study Skills, Homework Support, SAT/ACT and Basic Skills Review.
Pamela Eggebrecht
Certified Instructor
Pamela has 20 years of experience as an educator. She has taught all levels of high school English. She is also licensed to work with ESOL and GT students. In addition, Pamela is a state-certified Master Reading Teacher.
Her education includes an A.A. from MCC and a B.A. from Baylor. Pamela also earned a Master’s Degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University.
Pamela’s personal interests include painting, reading, sewing, and writing. She is the author and illustrator of a children’s book and is currently working on several other writing projects.
Pamela lives in Waco with her husband of 41 years and a menagerie of cats, dogs, fish, and a rabbit. Pamela loves working at Sylvan because she truly wants to see the kids succeed and does all she can to make that happen!

Atalie McCarthy
Certified Instructor
Atalie is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she earned a Bachelors degree in Art History. She is also certified to teach EC-6th Generalist. In her free time, Atalie enjoys reading, spending time outdoors and contemporary art. At Sylvan, she enjoys the high level of one on one interaction with the students.

Carolyn VanWinkle
Certified Instructor
Carolyn is a graduate of Mary Hardin Baylor where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Education Administration. She is also certified to teach Elementary 1-8, Spanish to 8th Inclusive and has a Kindergarten Endorsement. In her free time, Carolyn enjoys cooking. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with children.

Ashley McKeel
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Ashley is a graduate of the Universtiy of Texas at Arlington where she earned her Bachelor or Arts in Child Studies. She is also certified to teach EC-4 Generalist, 4-8 Mathematics and EC-8 ESL Supplemental. In her free time, Ashley enjoys baking and cake decorating. At Sylvan, she enjoys individual and small group tutoring.
Ashley is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Advanced Math, Algebra I, Geometry and Homework Support.
Alicia Wooten
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Alicia is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where she earned a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Scienes and a Minor in Mathematics. In her free time, Alicia enjoys crafts, cooking and being outside. At Sylvan, she enjoys allowing the students to see their full potential.
Alicia is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trig, Chemistry and Physics.
Michele Truman
Certified Instructor
Michele is a graduate of Trinity University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She is also certified to teach Elementary, Kindergarten, Generic Special Education and Early Childhood Handicapped. In her free time, Michele enjoys reading, exercising and watching her daughter cheer. At Sylvan, she enjoys the small classes.

Karen Caylor
Certified Instructor
Karen is a graduate of Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Great Texts of the Western Tradition and she is working on her Masters of Science in Educuation in Curriculum and Instruction. In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, running and hiking. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with the students.
