Meet the Tutors
The tutors of Woodlands Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Woodlands staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Woodlands Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Heather Riha
Center Director
Certified Mathematics Instructor 
Heather Riha began working with students at Northern Illinois University while pursuing a degree in elementary education, and she also worked as a preschool director. After moving to Texas and graduating from Sam Houston, she worked in the Klein school district with grades 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. She is currently certified in Reading/Language Arts 4-8 and is a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. She enjoys helping as many students as possible in the Woodlands area reach their goals.
Angela King
Director of Education
Certified Mathematics Instructor 
Angela is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and will graduate in December 2010 with a Master’s Degree. In her free time, Angela enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with students to help them succeed.

Andrea Black
Director of Education
Andrea is a graduate of the University of Houston where she earned a Fine Arts degree in Photography. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education 1-6. In her free time, Andrea enjoys photography, horse back riging and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing how much fun the students have learning.

Allison Anderson
Associate Director of Education
Allison is a graduate of Liberty University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies. She is also a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. In her free time, she enjoys singing, reading and studying languages. At Sylvan, Allison enjoys working at a place where she can be passionate about what she is doing because she wholeheartedly believes in Sylvan's mission statement, philosophies and goals.
David Taylor
Certified Mathematics Instructor
David is a graduate of Fort Hays State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Texas A&M Commerce where he earned a Masters in Education Administration. He is also certified to teach 6-12 Science Composite, 6-12 Life/Earth Science, All Level Physical Education. In his free time, David enjoys spending time with family, golf and watching sports. At Sylvan, he enjoys the change of pace from public schools.

Tanna Lacey
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Tanna is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education. In her free time, Tanna enjoys reading historical fiction and baking. At Sylvan, she enjoys knowing she is making a difference in a child's education.

Christopher Barry
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Christopher is a graduate of Loyola University where he earned Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He is also certified to teach Mathematics 8-12. In his free time, Christopher enjoys orchestra, reading and geocaching. At Sylvan, he enjoys helping students become achievers.

Stephen Tobin
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Stephen is a graduate of the University of Houston where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. In his free time, Stephen enjoys playing guitar and participating in athletic activities. At Sylvan, he enjoys building connections with the students and the staff.

John Sauder
Certified Mathematics Instructor
John is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Southwestern Adventist College where he earned an Associates of Science in Engineering. He is also certified to teach Mathematics 8-12. In his free time, John enjoys Houston Area Live Steamers. At Sylvan, he enjoys direct student contact and connections.
John is Sylvan certified to teach the following programs: Math Essentials, Advanced Math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trig and Physics.
Stephanie Behnke
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Stephanie is a graduate of Lonestar College where she earned an Associates of in Teaching 4-8th grade and Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Academic Studies with a Minor in Mathematics. She is also certified to teach Mathematics 4-8 and Generalist EC-6. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys watching football and soccer, spending time with family and growing plants. At Sylvan, she enjoys working with small groups which allows her to give more time and attention to each student.

Christy Lahr

Christy is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She is also a Sylvan Certified Mathematics instructor. In her free time, Christy enjoys being with her family and being active in her church. At Sylvan, she enjoys playing a role in helping the next generation achieve their goals and dreams.

Gayle Runnels-Pierce
Certified Mathematics Instructor
Gayle is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University where she received her Bachelor’s of Science and Stephen F Austin University where she received her Masters’ in Education. She is also certified to teach in the State of Texas as well as being a Sylvan Certified Math Instructor. In her free time, Gayle enjoys reading, arts and crafts and sports. At Sylvan, she enjoys the one on one interaction with the students.
Dorothy Sauder
Certified Instructor
Dorothy is a graduate of Southwestern Adventist College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education 1-8, English 1-8 and English 6-12. In her free time, Dorothy enjoys spending time with family and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing that moment when the students "get it."

Aracely Ortega

Aracely is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelors degree in History with a minor in Secondary Education and Spanish. She is also certified to teach History 8-12. In her free time, Aracely enjoys fishing, cooking and spending time with family. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students reach their full potential.

Christina Landrum

Christina is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She is also certified to teach EC-4th. In her free time, Christina enjoys geocaching, photography and painting parties. At Sylvan, she enjoys seeing students achieve success in their studies.

Tammy Black

Tammy is a graduate of Stephen F Austin University where she earned a Bachelors and Masters in English. She is also certified to teach Secondary English 6-12. In her free time, Tammy enjoys singing and reading. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students build their self confidence and self esteem.

Rose Belzung

Rose is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Ecology and Management and a Masters of Education in Agriculture Leadership, Education and Communication. She is also certified the teach grades 6-12 Agriculture Science and Technology. In her free time, Rose enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping and environmental sustainability. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students achieve their goals.
Shelly VanBenthuysen
Certified Instructor
Shelly is a graduate of Trinity College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education 1-8, Early Childhood Education PK-6 and ESL PK-8. In her free time, Shelly enjoys reading,cooking and spending time with her family. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping children feel good about themselves.

Ellen Chang

Ellen is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Applied Learning and Development. She is also certified to teach EC-6th with an ESL certification. In her free time, Ellen enjoys playing music and learning new languages. At Sylvan, she enjoys getting to know the students and using her experience to make learning fun and exciting.

Noreen Reid

Noreen is a graduate of Central Michigan University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and the University of Houston where she earned a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. She is also certified to teach Elementary grades 1-8, ESL and Mentally Retarded. In her free time, Noreen enjoys travel, technology and animals. At Sylvan, she enjoys helping students meet their potential.

Jackie Haskell

Jackie is a graduate of the University of St Louis where she earned a Bachelors degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. She is also certified to teach both Elementary and Special Education. In her free time, Jackie enjoys volunteering at the Humane Society and attending concerts. At Sylvan, she enjoys the individual attention each student receives.

Sheila Eargle

Sheila is a graduate of Stephen F Austin University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is also certified to teach Elementary Education, Early Child and ESL EC-4th. In her free time, Sheila enjoys substitute teaching. At Sylvan, she enjoys teaching students how to learn and to be successful.

Danielle Patterson

Danielle has been a member of the Woodlands Sylvan team since March of 2007. She attended Southern Methodist University where she earned a Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism. Danielle also holds a teaching certificate in English, Language Arts and Reading. At Sylvan, Danielle enjoys working with the students and helping them succeed.
Christina Pamphilis

Christina is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is also certified to teach Generalist EC-4, Special Education EC-12 and ESL. In her free time, Christina enjoys church volunteering and being a member of Olympian dancers. At Sylvan, she enjoys the more personal setting.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, church activities and swimming. At Sylvan, Jenniffer enjoys customizing the lessons to fit each of the students.
