Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best

Donna Drake
Center Director
Donna has a masters in Education Administration and has been a Sylvan director for 3 years. Before Sylvan, she was a teacher and an assistant principal for public and charter schools in Austin. She has a passion for helping children succeed academically.
Margie Paz
Instructor
Margie attended the University of TX at El Paso and earned her Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Early Childhood. She is originally from El Paso and has lived in Austin for 7 years. Margie is married and has 2 children. Teaching at Sylvan is very fulfilling because she enjoys helping empower children to think and become problem solvers. She enjoys spending time with family (especially outdoors), running, reading and listening to a variety of music.
Jen Reichert
Instructor
Jen is a fun loving teacher who does everything she can to make learning enjoyable and meaningful for her students. Currently, she is our resident "tester", working with students through their initial assessment. She always has a great attitude and a smile on her face.
Leah Elbaum
Instructor
Leah is a movie fanatic. She loves watching movies and playing games, and she brings that same passion to teaching. At Sylvan, Leah teaches Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, and Study Skills. She loves teaching and working at Sylvan because the students are, "very bright, friendly, and extremely sweet kids."
Leo Carranza
Instructor
If you love dogs, talk to Leo. He has three dogs and loves to take them for walks. Leo has a Masters in Education and has retired from teaching after a 34 year career as a high school math teacher. He loves working with the students and frequently tells them they're, "grrrreat!"
Becky Lego
Instructor
Becky is a cheerful and willing to go the extra mile kind of person. When she isn't working at Sylvan, Becky is working at Del Valle High School as a math teacher. She loves the kids at Sylvan because it's, "fun to work with eager learners."
Clay Cook
Instructor
Clay is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and is looking forward to becoming a Social Studies teacher in the Austin area. He rediscovered his joy of Algebra through tutoring students here at Sylvan. He enjoys tutoring students at Sylvan because they put forth so much effort! His first six months here have been great and he is looking forward to the next six months!
Natasha MacNevin
Instructor
Natasha joined Sylvan in 2009 when she moved to Austin from southern California. She graduated with a B.A. in English from California State University, Fullerton and earned an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Nottingham, England. The best part of teaching for her is being able to make the students smile through it all!
