Success Stories

Great news from a student's teacher!

"Heather is doing substantially better since she started the tutoring with you guys. I'm very proud of her. She actively engages in class discussions and is usually one of the few kids who answers the tougher questions. It's such a dramatic change that I hardly recognize her. Thank you so much and please continue doing whatever it is you're doing."

- Rita Castriotta, 7th grade teacher at Ann Richard's School; Spring 2009

A big improvement in reading!

"I want you to know that I have noticed a great deal of improvement in Sydney's reading in the past 2 weeks.
I appreciate all you have done in working with her."

- Ms. Angela Sharpe, 1st grade teacher at Bryker Woods Elementary; Spring 2009

"Refresher" course for an adult student

"I enrolled at Sylvan Learning Center in Central Austin so they can help me prepare for the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills). TEAS is a pre-entrance exam to the vocational nursing program at the University of Texas-Brownsville. I enrolled in a "refresher" course to help with my math, reading, grammar and science skills. It had been several years since my last college course in these subject areas. In a little over 20 hours of instruction and the guidance from the Sylvan instructors, I felt more confident and prepared to take the test. Now, I am happy to say I passed the TEAS test! Thank you so much, Sylvan!!"

Sylvan, the first source for tutoring assistance

"We came to Sylvan as a last resort for tutoring assistance and uncovered it should have been our first source to look at. We are seeing immediate, positive impact in our daughter as she gains confidence in the skills she felt she was weak in. A wonderful process is used to identify both the needs and plan development to bridge the needs with scheduled results you can count on. After 4 weeks, the noticeable confidence gained and exhibited was amazing and it fully validated our commitment to find and use the resources offered by Sylvan. We have all learned new ways to approach and help with the educational challenges we face today and feel we have taken the right path towards helping our student be successful now, in the future and as a professional in many years to come."

Our daughter is graduating middle school!

"Thank you for assisting our daughter this year at your central Austin center; it paid off! She did very well on her math placement exam and went straight into Geometry. She also did well on her reading exam and is eligible for Pre-AP Biology! I cannot believe how quickly the year flew by! She is graduating Friday and we are so proud of her!! Thank you again!"

- Yvonne, parent of an 8th grader at St. Louis Catholic School; May 27, 2009

A Sylvan Fan

"I love coming to Sylvan in central Austin because it is a fun place to learn and the teachers are the best! During every hour, you get tokens and you can save those tokens for an awesome prize at the Sylvan store or on the Reward Board! Sylvan has improved my grades so much in just 8 weeks! Sylvan is the best tutoring place ever!"

- A 6th grader from Lee Elementary; May 28, 2009

Sylvan - a fun, great experience!

"Sylvan [in central Austin] was a great experience for my daughter. The instructors were very caring and always happy to give me updates on my daughter's progress. Sylvan was also a fun experience. The children are awarded with tokens for their hard work. The tokens can be used at the Sylvan Store to purchase lots of great things. Once a month, the parents attend a meeting with the center manager. It always amazed me how aware she was with my daughter's progress, strengths, weaknesses and current status. I would and will recommend Sylvan for any student who is struggling or just wants to get ahead!"

- Evelyn, parent of a 5th grader at River Place Elementary; June 11, 2009

A confident, competent 3rd grade reader on our hands

"We brought our son to Sylvan in central Austin after the reading specialist at his school told us that he was nearly a year behind in reading. He had been through kindergarten, first and second grades and we had adopted the attitude "every child is different; there's no rush; boys develop later." How I wish we had brought Max to Sylvan sooner!

Today is his last day at Sylvan. He is now reading nearly a year ahead of grade level. Just as important, he loves going to Sylvan and has made us promise to bring him back! He thrieved on the one-on-one attention, the frequent rewards, and the overall positive and professional atmosphere at Sylvan. He made friends there that he would like to keep in touch with.

We came to Sylvan at a time when our family was facing what felt to us like a difficult challenge: our child was not reading even after three years of instruction at home and school. Now we have a confident, competent third-grade reader on our hands thanks to Sylvan."

- Lisa, proud parent of a 3rd grader at Austin Discovery School
