Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Karen A.
Instructor
Karen is originally from Rhode Island. She attended the University of NH, where she earned a B.A. in English, and also attended Rhode Island College, where she earned a M.A.T. in secondary education. Currently, Karen is a stay-at-home mom with her son and daughter; and before this, she taught 10th & 11th grade English in Orange County, VA. She enjoys reading, sailing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Nicole B.
Instructor
Nicole is originally from Rhode Island and attended Rhode Island College, where she earned a B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. Nicole has been a substitute teacher in Pawtucket for two years; and she loves to be a teacher because she enjoys helping children. In her spare time, Nicole likes to read, do Sudoku puzzles, and spend time with family and friends.
Kate D.
Instructor
Kate grew up in Rhode Island and attended Rhode Island College, where she earned her B.A. in Secondary Education and English. Kate is currently working towards her M.A., also in English. Kate has taught English, Language Arts, and World Literature; and she currently teaches at Burrillville High School. Kate's favorite thing about teaching at Sylvan is watching the students grow and progress during their time here.
Cathy D.
Instructor
Cathy is a Rhode Island Native who attended Rhode Island College, where she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education. Cathy taught third grade at Monsignor Gadoury School in Woonsocket, RI, for fifteen years, and she enjoys working at Sylvan because she is able to continue to help children understand their work. Her favorite part of teaching is being there when children understand something for the first time. Cathy enjoys reading in her spare time, and she likes to spend time with friends and family.
Claudine M.
Instructor
Claudine attended RIC, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. Claudine completed her student teaching at Flora Curtis Elementary School, and she is currently substitute teaching in the Lincoln and Providence school systems. Claudine enjoys the friendly environment at Sylvan, and she believes that the positive relationships formed among staff and students helps to provide a good working environment. Claudine's hobbies include shopping and crafts.
Kasey M.
Test Administrator / Instructional Aide
Kasey is from Lincoln, RI, and she is currently attending Rhode Island College, where she is studying Early Childhood Education. Kasey enjoys working at Sylvan because she loves to spend time with children. Her hobbies include field hockey, shopping, swimming, and spending time with friends and family.
Elyse S.
Test Administrator
Elyse is originally from Cumberland, Rhode Island. She received a B.A. in Elementary Education with an English concentration at Rhode Island College. She would like to return to school later to earn her Master's as a Reading Specialist. Elyse loves that, as a test administrator, she works with students on their first day at Sylvan and again at their 36-hour Progress Assessment. She loves to see how much progress they have made! Her hobbies include photography, music, and scrapbooking.
