Sylvan Skills Assessment – a battery of diagnostic assessments that:
1. determines student’s level of mastery for a specific subject
2. pinpoints student’s specific skill gaps and levels of mastery
3. identifies student’s potential learning ability and pace

Dr. Ricks Bio
I began my professional career with the Baltimore County, Maryland, Public Schools as a high school English teacher. I am now the Senior Vice President for Education Outreach for Sylvan Learning.
Before joining Sylvan, I was Assistant Superintendent for the school system's department of curriculum and instruction, where I oversaw the development of all instructional programs for the 25th largest public school system in the United States.
Over the years, I have made numerous presentations and educational television and radio appearances on topics ranging from elementary and secondary school curriculum to character and arts education. I am a frequent interview guest on practical ways students and their parents can prepare for school success.
I hold a Master of Liberal Arts degree from The Johns Hopkins University and a doctorate in English Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland. I serve on the Education Advisory Board of Stevenson University and the Board of Directors of The Grace and St. Peter's School in Baltimore. I am an associate of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of Towson University's College of Liberal Arts, and the recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from CITA/AdvancED, the umbrella organization of regional, national, and international academic accreditors
