Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Ken Fahr
Center Director
He has been working in the field of business development,management, and marketing for over 25 years.
Both of his older children had wonderful and successful experiences going through tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center. He is proud that his daughter has graduated from U.C. Davis with honors and his son is in his second year at U.C. Davis.
Deborah Massachi
Director of Education
Deborah has been working in education since she graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has had the pleasure of working with students ranging from Kindergarten to High School. She earned her teaching credential from Cal State University, Monterey Bay and is excited to have joined the Sylvan staff as Instructional Manager in the spring of 2009. She was then able to move into the Director of Education role in June.
Lourdes Alatorre
Teacher / Program Manager
Lourdes has supported students as a tutor and classroom teacher for over 15 years. She was born and raised in the Mission district in San Francisco and graduated from SFSU with a degree in Psychology. Lourdes has been teaching and providing program management at Sylvan for nearly two years. Her favorite part of the job is seeing students improve, and finding new and exciting ways to teach. In her free time, Lourdes enjoys cooking and having friends over to try out new recipes.
Nancy Zawadzki
Executive Director
Nancy works effortlessly to support the managerial staff of seven centers. She has worked for Sylvan for ten years. Prior to Sylvan she had a catering company and taught K-8. She gets up a 6 a.m. to take long walks in the Berkeley hills with Dave, her husband of 42 years.
