"Through the work of your teachers and staff, my son has learned how to learn. Sylvan always treated him with respect and helped him find a way out of failure - an important lesson for all of us to learn. He worked hard and gained the confidence that he could indeed succeed in school. Thank you, Sylvan Learning! You have made all the difference."

Sylvan Essay

"Have you ever gone to Sylvan? I go to Sylvan and love it! Sylvan is the best because they have different programs, the teachers are nice, and they have a store.

I went through the reading program. I have been doing many Versa Tiles. Versa Tiles are like puzzles. To make sure you have the correct answers, you have to flip it over.

In reading you read fun stories and do synonyms and antonyms. I have just started the writing program. You get to write a lot of essays. You also get to type on the computer.

Ms. Nicole L, Ms. Heather, Ms. Nancy, Ms. Nicole V, Ms.Svetlana are all funny, helpful, and they make me feel good. They make me feel good because they say, “ good job”, and make me smarter. They make me more intelligent by explaining things to me.

Tokens are earned while you work through your hour. You get tokens by trying your best and staying on task. With the tokens you can go to the store. There are many different toys that you can purchase. Some of my favorite toys are the blue and pink bag, the lava lamp, and the yellow bouncing play dough. You can also get gift cards from Best Buy, Cold Stone, and Macy’s. You have to write out a check for the toys and gift cards.

I think that after you read my essay, you will understand why Sylvan is fun."

"Carolyn, my next door neighbor and best friend in the world is so happy. Her granddaughter was struggling in 1st grade. So they sent her to Sylvan. The teacher had told her Mom she was not sure Meghan was going to be promoted to 2nd grade. Well, I don't have the full details but she needed to be in book 12 to be promoted and since going to Sylvan for only around 1 month so far, she is already in book 14 at school. YEAH Sylvan.

I don't know if you guys realize how grateful parents and grandparents are to you dedicated people. Parents have a lot of sleepless nights worrying about the kids. You give them their peace back. THANK YOU!!"

SAT Prep

"I came to Sylvan in order to improve my SAT Score. Based on the first practice test I took, my goal has been achieved. The tutors here are really friendly and helpful. I have learned many skills necessary to obtain the score I want. Especially in math which was/is giving me the most trouble and critical reading, which is second. I will be very happy largely because of the tutoring I received at Sylvan."

SAT Prep

"Sylvan has been such a wonderful place. All the staff here is so kind and great. I came here at first, very nervous, but after the first week of coming here I was able to gain confidence. What I like about Sylvan is that they give practice SAT tests to present an idea of what the real test would be like. They have truly helped me prepare for the SAT test and I am glad I came here."

"What I really liked about this program was the great college tips the tutors gave. They made me realize how serious college is going to be, how the professors might be and I feel more prepared now. I should be prepared for serious work, but it is not going to be bad. It’s a good challenge.

There were also a lot of writing skills and tips I learned. This program showed me how a good paper should look, what the professors may expect or want, knowing what and how to use good sources, and things I should look out for while writing (run-on sentences, fragments, and keeping the tense). I have a better idea of how I should write papers. I have a better feeling and feel a bit more prepared for college."

Sylvan is Great!

"Sylvan is the best! Sylvan is great in many ways. It is not messy at all. Things from the student store don’t fall from their place. Sylvan helps you earn tokens. Teachers are super!
The teachers are friendly and encourage you to do well. They tell you what mistakes you made in a very nice way. They always help you when you need help and teachers at Sylvan are responsible, are on-time and are ready to work. Teachers at Sylvan have the right tools such as, dictionaries, sharpened pencils, rulers, pens, answer keys, highlighters, and tokens. Sylvan is organized. When you sit at a table the tables are clean and organized, the books are not in a messy pile and pencils are not everywhere. Sylvan is clean and not messy at all. The desks are always clean and no pencil marks are on them. No trash is on the ground. During break time you relax your mind. You can go to the student store and look at things. You could do something at the transition area or just sit down and read a book. Sylvan lets you study in peace. They have comfortable seats, and it is not loud so you can concentrate. Sylvan is a great place to learn. I like Sylvan a lot."

Things I Learned at Sylvan

"Sylvan is the number one place to go if you need help in school. From my recent visit at Sylvan I learned many things such as writing and grammar. The fun I had at Sylvan was unbelievable.
Grammar is among the many figures I learned at Sylvan. Pronouns were the most important grammar lesson I learned. Pronouns are words that substitute for nouns. Another grammar lesson I learned was modifiers. A modifier is when two nouns are separated in a sentence and then you put them together. The very last grammar I learned at Sylvan was appositives. Appositives are words that relate or restate a noun. Grammar wasn’t the only subject I improved in, but writing was too.
A couple of months ago in school I pulled an F+ in writing and after going to Sylvan I pulled an A. At Sylvan I learned all the steps and rules of writing. For example, the introduction is the first paragraph in essay. This paragraph tells what you are going to write about and tries to get the readers attention. Details are the most important thing in writing. Details are sentences that give ideas or examples about the topic in a paragraph. The last piece in a paragraph is a transition sentence. Transition sentences restate the topic in which you wrote about, and a transition sentence also makes your sentence flow. While learning about writing I was having fun.
I thought Sylvan had no fun to offer the first day I came here, but I was wrong. Sylvan gave me tokens for working and my behavior. Tokens were like money I got to spend there. I got to spend tokens at the Sylvan store. Another characteristic I liked at Sylvan was the teachers. Sylvan offered me so much fun I couldn’t believe it.
Being at Sylvan I was taught how to write the perfect essay, how to use grammar, and above all I will remember the fun I had there. I wouldn’t go anywhere else but Sylvan for tutoring."

- Austin M., age 12

"My journey at Sylvan is great because on my report card I got As, Bs and one C. Usually on my report card I get more than one C and I feel proud of myself. Being here at Sylvan as a student feels fun because I meet new friends, laugh, and the toys. If I had to tell someone about Sylvan, I would tell them that if you need help on school work Sylvan can help… a lot. Also, it’s fun too!"
