At Sylvan, we work with parents and teachers to identify the learning problem through our Sylvan Skills Assessment. We provide a diagnostic and prescriptive approach to learning that includes standardized tests, diagnostic tools and personal interviews. This assessment helps us pinpoint exactly where the learning problem exists and allows us to customize a program that fills the skill gaps identified by the assessment.
Sylvan will develop a personalized learning plan that pinpoints the skills your child needs. Once the learning problem has been identified, motivating a child at Sylvan is an obstacle that we have overcome with our motivation program. We provide students with individualized attention as well as constant encouragement and praise for a job well done. We provide our students with the opportunity to earn tokens as part of an effort to reinforce behaviors and attitudes during instruction. Many of our students look forward to earning their tokens and then redeeming them for prizes in our Sylvan Learning centers.
As part of our ongoing effort to ensure that our students are successful and that parents have chosen the right learning program, we carefully monitor each student’s progress and share the results with their parents throughout the life of the program. In addition, we meet with our student’s teachers to make sure that the success achieved in the center is translated into the classroom.
Once parents have seen the difference in their child’s attitude and grades at school, they are convinced that Sylvan is the right choice for success.
Philosophy:
Sylvan Learning offers a proven process that sets us apart from tutors and other tutoring services. Our nationally-acclaimed programs incorporate a proven system of learning that will help children reach their full potential.
For nearly 30 years, Sylvan has given more than 2 million kids the skills to do better in school and the confidence to do better in everything else. Sylvan’s proven system helps children discover the love of learning. It all starts with a Sylvan Skills Assessment to identify each child’s specific strengths and weaknesses by pinpointing the exact skills your child needs.
Two other things that differentiate Sylvan from other tutoring options are that parents can access Sylvan’s proven programs through in-center tutoring or live, online tutoring. We also offer a pre-k reading program for children as young as 4 ½ years old.
Sylvan knows that every child is unique so we offer children the opportunity to learn and succeed with customized programs in math, reading, writing, and study skills.
Sylvan also makes a special effort to partner with each child’s school and teacher, sharing information about the child’s program at Sylvan and gaining insights from the child’s classroom teacher.
