Sylvan Learning Center Launches Live Online Tutoring Program Nationwide, Offering Convenience And Guaranteed Academic Results

(Baltimore, MD) — Just in time for summer vacation and travel, Sylvan Learning Center today introduced Sylvan Online™, a convenient new way to get Sylvan's personalized reading and math tutoring online with live, certified teachers…from the comfort of home.

Sylvan Online allows students and parents to easily fit tutoring into their busy work, home and travel schedules. It can be used anywhere a PC computer with Internet access is available, using online technology that is simple and enjoyable for today's computer-savvy students.

Sylvan Online's teaching methods are based on more than 27 years of unmatched experience tutoring more than two million students at Sylvan Learning Centers nationwide. Sylvan Online guarantees academic growth of at least one grade level, and in pilot, 100% of students met or exceeded the guarantee on average, Sylvan Online students achieved academic growth of 1.7 years in reading, and 2.2 years in math.

All Sylvan Online tutors are U.S.-based, and their tutoring has met 12 established standards of supplemental education and been accredited by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). Sylvan provides all the tools to create the Sylvan Online live interactive tutoring sessions. All the parents need to provide is a PC with Windows software and an Internet service provider. Trained and certified Sylvan Online teachers then tutor students in real time using a hands-free headset connected to an ordinary PC. The student and teacher talk to each other as they write questions and answers on the same workspace displayed on both the student's and teacher's computer screens using a digital pencil and digital writing pad, similar to a mouse pad.

As with Sylvan's in-center tutoring, the Sylvan Skills Assessment™ — a unique combination of nationally recognized tests, diagnostic tools and personal interviews — is used to develop a personalized lesson plan for each individual student. Students can then receive their instruction in the Sylvan Learning Center, online or a combination of both.

A Sylvan Learning Center educational director monitors the student's online progress, and meets regularly in person with the parents to provide progress updates. Sylvan also communicates with the student's classroom teacher, creating a collaborative network with both parents and teachers. As with in-center tutoring, Sylvan offers a guarantee that a student's reading or math skills will improve by one full grade level equivalent in only 36 hours of instruction, or the next 12 hours of instruction are free.
